Torino Recommendations?
Going to Torino in September, and there is not a lot of information available as compared to the big touristed cities of Italy.
Staying at the Sitea, would like some recs for restaurants, regional Piemontese food, on the medium price scale.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much, maclover! These places look fabulous! Torino seems to fly off the radar, a great secret, playing second fiddle to Rome, Florence, Venice et al. But it looks like a place that we will really enjoy! The Mole Antonielliana and the Egizio are on our list.
Any good recs for chocolate and caffes to have drinks?
Thanks again!

I'll be in Turin mid October. Staying near the train station. Can you recommend any traditional Trattorias or good Pizzerias within short walking distance of the main train station? Nothing fancy, just really good food at a fair price. Local clientele.
Also, we want to use Turin as a base and take a few day train trips. Generally we can leave around 10am and I have to be back by 3:30 to work. Can you recommend a few small interesting town close by for a day trip?
Thanks for your suggestions.

Torino is truly a gem.
Looks from your post like you have a special fondness for good food ^ so my recommendation is to put in a visit to http://www.eatalytorino.it/eatalytor...come_eng.lasso. Eataly is special, slow food presidium, food and drink at its best and some fantastic shopping for take home presents. Number 1 bus from the central station will take you there in about 15 minutes.
Another fine restaurant is http://www.sapordivino.net/ but it's in a neighborhood you'll want to keep your wits about you

For chocolate Gobino is the place to go. It is at the beginning of Via Lagrange, close to Museo Egizio.
Good cafs are San Carlo in piazza San Carlo, or Baratti&Milano in piazza Castello.
All walkable in 5 minutes from your place
Cheers

I honestly don't like Silvano that much. Good gelato but I much prefer Grom (in piazza Paleocapa near central Porta Nuova station) or Fiorio (in Via Po half the way between Piazza Castello and Piazza Vittorio).
Grom is now a very well established gelato-chain in Italy and worldwide but still wonderful. I love theirs "c'era una volta" and "fiordilatte". The one I mentioned is the very first one that opened some years back, but you can find at least some others in the city (Via Lagrange, Via Garibaldi in city center)

Pizzeria Sfashion
Via Cesare Battisti
011 5160085
Pizza e Cozze
Via Viotti, 8
011 5162035
Pizzeria Fratelli La Bufala
Via Barbaroux, 37

Pizzeria Sicomoro
Via Stampatori, 6

I might suggest just staying in the very city center and enjoy Piazza San Carlo and Via Roma. Piazza Castello and Via Po. Visit Museo Egizio (second only to the one in Cairo), Museo del Cinema (wonderful), go one night to Teatro Carignano which is a gem.
If you have one day off, I strongly suggest Reggia di Venaria and Palazzina di caccia di Stupinigi. Better to get there by car, but I think it is doable on public transportation as well.
How many days are you staying in the city? Maybe a weekend to the olympic mountains could be nice
Cheers

Thanks maclover,
We will be there for 6 days one of which is a Saturday so I'll have the full day to play. Plenty of time to see Torino. If you have any suggestions for a day trip that Saturday (mid October) please let me know.
Thanks maclover and everyone else for all your tips. Can't wait...

all are right, torino is an amazing place, hopefully will get back to spend more time rather than working while i was there.
many people told me when i was there to go up on the mole` never made it but if you go, take some pictures and let me know how it is. if i remember right they were showing the shroud, not sure of the time frame but it was sometime this year.
if anyone goes, please...trip updates and pics, let me know where to check it out.

Just back from a week in STUNNING Turin. What a wonderful, genuine Italian city. Didn't see one visible American or English tourist all week. Stayed at the Best Western Genova near the Stazione Nuovo which i highly recommend for it's location, service and value (try for a room on 2nd floor--20 foot frescoed ceiling and a balcony over the bathroom area). Around the corner is Ristorante Marcello - very authentic, delicious food at incredibly reasonable prices (a whole grilled fish 12e). Reservations necessary (Corso Stati Uniti 4,, 011. 530 854. Closed Saturday night.) Can't wait to return to Torino, Hotel Genova and Marcello's. Lots to do but if you're in Italy for shopping, head to Milan. Styles and quality are 20 years behind.
