What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Plat Ambassador

Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes we were

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Made arrangements with Hotel months before arrival and was personally cared for by a staff member who made several phone calls to Japan. Unfortunately, our original contact was on vacation throughout our stay.

Booked on regular points but was later offered on PB. 50 Euro supplement for Club access. Was also given option of additional 20Euro for a Acropolis view room. Asked if I could keep my options open & decide if I could check the other room when we got there. No problem.

How are the rooms?
Club room had a peek of the Parthenon. Was offered a room 2 doors down on the 8th floor for the upgraded room costing at least 70Euro supplement. When I checked - the looming black building in front of the hotel was what I saw. What a joke ! Not much of the Parthenon for the added amount so I declined. When I mentioned my disappointment to the Club Lounge personnel, she was very nonchalant.

It was hot in Athens when we got there and we seemed to be having AC issues in our room. By 2:45 AM, I wrote Duty Manager since I could not sleep because of the AC working poorly as well as concern about poor upgrade offering. Feel asleep at 5 AM.

At late breakfast, we got a call from Guest relations that another room was there for us to inspect. Up on the 9th, a Junior Suite was what we were offered. This one had a real view of the Parthenon although the black building was still there.;-) Move was personally supervised by GR Officer in charge. Given champagne & lots of baklava for our Anniversary treat.

How is the exec. lounge?
Enjoyed the evening offerings every night since we did our moving around & eating out mid day after our brunch.
Good food choices with ample Greek options
Outstanding service from 2 personnel

What was good?
Great service recovery - very good upgrade
Very nice lengthy visit from the GR Manager who sat with us while we were having tea.
Very good concierge service all done at the Club
Free wifi

What was bad?
Initial offering of Acropolis room - totally not worth the additional charge

Value for the money? Would you return?
PB plus 50 Euro Club supplement - good value for us

What is your Priority Club status?
Plat Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay ?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Club Double room - received a Junior Suite

How are the rooms?
Room 526 with nice view on to the main road, no noise issues at all. But then again there were no noise issues anywhere, Madrid seemed to be on its summer holiday. Nice double room, narrow living room, bedroom and spacious bathroom with separate shower bath. Odd pillar in the middle of the bedroom but otherwise spacious and well appointed.

How is the exec. lounge?
Spacious lounge on the 1st floor and seemed all the more so for being empty most of the time we were there. Staff on the desk from 11am to sometime in the evening at which point you need to use your room key to access the lounge. Breakfast was not served in the club you went downstairs to the breakfast in the El Jardin restaurant. Nice comprehensive buffet. Not sure if this is a permanent feature or just for the dog days of summer. Lots of booze and adequate snacks, was still flowing freely when we departed around 9pm.

What was good and what was bad?

Good
- efficient check-in, arrived around 11am, as we`d emailed them prior to check-in that we would, and had no problems getting our room at that time.
- Ambassador goodies were a fruit plate and some Spanish candies
- nice upgrade
- friendly staff, everyone had excellent English
- nice staff in the lounge, very helpful
- had a problem with my card on check-out but staff were pro-active in finding a solution to it
- not exactly central but a nice walk along tree-lined avenues to the places of interest.
- taxi from the hotel to Barajas airport on a slow Sunday lunchtime took under 15 mins

Bad-
- slightly disappointing that the breakfast is not served in the club but other than that nothing

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Very much so, paid about 200E which is great value for money.

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Gold Ambassador

Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Don't remember and not sure if received the upgrade.. BUT I booked the lowest rate w/o bfast and the really nice staff told me that I have lounge access

How are the rooms?
Good, more on the 'beach hotel' style than your average IC (Because it is a Beach Hotel) Great view!

How is the exec. lounge?
Really nice! Complete breakfast, reduced selection in the evenings but adequate.

What was your welcome gift?
One of the nicest I've received in my IC stays.. A beatiful Panam souvenir broze platter.

Did you receive fruit in the room?
Yes, good mix.. and the water (two bottles) was replenished daily.

Value for the money? Would you return?
Absolutely will return.

Additional Notes
This stay was on 2011 and then on 2012, It was the first time I used the Ambassador Status (2011). And is one of the few IC properties I've stayed where I don't have to request my benefits.

Gold Ambassador

Were you happy with the hotel?
Absolutely

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Not sure and didn't ask, I booked lowest flexible w/o breakfast and was mainly focused on making sure they let me use the Club Lounge.

How are the rooms?
Good, a little tired as some say but adequate.. And for the rates more than adequate.

How is the exec. lounge?
Really nice! Complete breakfast. Never tried midday or evening (returned late night everyday).

What was your welcome gift?
Nothing.. Maybe next time!

Did you receive fruit in the room?
Well well... Requested TWICE (two different days) to front desk and they were like "what you talkin' about?" (new staff I guesss).
I am pretty less into requesting stuff than the average frequent traveler but in this case I contacted the concierge at the end of second day (a little late I know) and I'm so glad I did! The wonderful Marcelo Gonzlez, one of the BEST Concierges I know to this date, immediately fixed the situation, he also told me that they always honor club access to all Ambassadors.. so finally:
Yes, good mix of fruit.. and the water (two bottles) was replenished daily from that day to the end of my stay. (didn't metion the welcome gift to him thou.. I was more into the fruit and water).

Value for the money? Would you return?
Great value. .Absolutely will return.

Additional Notes
Huge free parking, state of the art COMPLETE fitness club, blazing fast internet (note that is free only for Elites of any tier) and to mention again, superb Concierge staff.

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum Ambassador

Were you happy with the hotel?
Excellent stay

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Booked Classic Room on Points (great value considering the rate was 605) - received Superior Room

How are the rooms?
As mentioned in the master thread for this hotel, they're not large. However, I thought the finish really matched the era/opulence of the hotel. There were a few marks on the wallpaper (but nothing major)

How is the exec. lounge?
Paid discounted Ambassador rate of 90 to access the lounge, which I thought was good value and made the stay memorable. Great canaps, champagne and breakfast. Staff very helpful

What was your welcome gift?
Grand Hotel branded tin of French-style sweet items

Did you receive fruit in the room?
No fruit provided

Value for the money? Would you return?
Great use of points - would not have been so pleased if I had paid the going rate. Would love to return

Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Deluxe on a Chase Free Night, received a Junior Suite

How are the rooms?
The room was nice and reasonably large. It was about what I would expect for a reasonably new IC.

How is the exec. lounge?
None

What was your welcome gift?
Kettle chips, M&Ms and bottled water

Did you receive fruit in the room?
Yes, an apple, an orange and some grapes

What was good?
Staff was generally quick and helpful, location is very convenient to the Blue Line Rosemont station for traveling to downtown.

What was bad?
They attempted to charge me for the in room movie (promised free by the front desk at check in and in my Ambassador welcome note) and $30 for "accommodation". Instant Service was quick about crediting the movie, but had trouble with the accommodation charge. After holding for a few minutes, the agent told me the Reservations Manager wasn't familiar with the rate code used, but she thought I maybe didn't have enough points to cover the stay. After explaining a) that's not how points work, and b) this was not a points stay but a Chase free night, they I finally agreed to remove the charge.

Value for the money? Would you return?
Yes, I would return. The normal rates for this hotel are generally very reasonable and it would be a good value compared to many of the other properties in the area.

Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Points on Standard, given Geneva Suite

How are the rooms?
Nice rooms.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was your welcome gift?
A box of chocolates.

Did you receive fruit in the room?
Yes.

What was good?
Daytime staff was good
Good room upgrade

What was bad?
Night staff was very poor. There's an issue with the room that resulted in a change, nonchalant attitude from the night duty manager (yes... MANAGER) irritates me. A proper apology from the morning desk staff is the saving grace.

Value for the money? Would you return?
I'm not sure if I would return, great use on points, but with a rate of close to EUR400 I can find a better alternative

Were you happy with the hotel?
Somewhat

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Grande Deluxe. Given same room with high floor - not considered an upgrade to me.

How are the rooms?
IC Standard rooms that I expect. Not any more.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was your welcome gift?
A tea infused elephant doll. 2 welcome drinks/beer.

Did you receive fruit in the room?
Yes - The only IC to top up fruits daily so far.

What was good?
Location... The rest are at most average.

What was bad?
Nothing really stands out but I consider staff's overall performance as very average, with the exception of concierge staff at the door.

Value for the money? Would you return?
Not really value for money, given the fact that other non-ihg of the same price range have slightly better experience.

Were you happy with the hotel?

For the most part. Common spaces overwhelmed by conference, alas. Lovely lobby and garden filled with attendees eating box lunches, etc. Room was very nice.

Which room did you book and what upgrade did you receive?
Booked Deluxed Room, got Superior Room

How are the rooms?
Pretty spacious, nice floor to ceiling windows. Some must have views of downtown/skyline. Ours did not and just faced North. Comfy bed, very clean. Large bathroom with soaking tub and stall shower.

How is the exec. lounge?
Wasn't offered access.

What was your welcome gift?

This was BS- they have a letter saying their Ambassador gift is free wifi.

Did you receive fruit in the room?

Nope. One bottle of water for two guests.

Value for the money? Would you return?
Probably not. It was okay for my bogo ambassador cert, but I think its overpriced for what it is, given that there are literally dozens of other hotels within a few blocks, which were going for under $200 a night, while this was $350+ - and an exorbitant $22/nt parking

Considering that all Ambassadors are at least IHG Gold members who are entitled to free internet, this is indeed BS to a degree that it should be reported to corporate I believe.
