Most important points to consider for a valid BRG:
1. The comparison website MUST bill in the same currency as the hotel .
2. The cancellation terms must be equal or better, than the terms by the hotels.
3. The Website needs to provide INSTANT confirmation.
4. The room names should match, but if you can demonstrate, that the room is comparable, it will also work with discrepancies in the name.
5. The price difference has to be more than either USD 1 or 1% (whichever is higher).
5.b In regards to hotels located in australia and New Zealand the price difference must be greater than 3% .
Hotels for which you will get reimbursed:
(Note: There have been significant problems with getting full reimbursements from IHG, especially for reimbursements in other currencies than USD)

Yes! Forgot about this. Happened to me recently as well. It was over for the Expedia BRG.
The agent looked up the Best Western Airport Inn instead of the Best Western Arizonian Inn.

Also, you may have to talk them though the same search you did. I had a problem once where the hotel was close to 2 towns (both were in the hotel title), and the competing web site only showed the hotel at the lower price on one search, but at the higher price in the other.

The average nightly rate AND the total price must be cheaper on a competing website.

However, when we used a different browser there is an average nightly rate that is posted for the same room type which 137.50 EUR.'

I'm delighted - my room at the IC Rome for a night next month is now showing as complimentary, and I have booked the previous night on lastminute.com as a 'secret hotel' which I deduced would be the IC and luckily the guess paid off so have two nights for effectively £140 total! Yay!

Well it is a free night, I don't think its unreasonable for them to be a bit rigid with the rules, though I do see where a lot of the posters are coming from... never tried filling for one as I usually travel for business an the office pays for everything.
