My mom was considering selling some of her property and am wondering if she should wait.

Bad time to take money out of India. At the same time lot of foreign money coming into India so people are looking to buy.

If you can sell and bank the money for a year or so then might be worthwhile selling.

Agreed it's a pretty lousy time to take money out of India, although things will probably get even worse in the short term as far as the rupee value goes.

(Stricter) capital controls are probably the government's next move if they get desperate enough or if enough political pressure builds up, but that will only make things worse and ultimately make India a worse place for foreign investment in the long term.

Strange they have Sir & Lord (and Datuk), no Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, or Padma Shri??

None of the Indian ones are titles/honorifics. They are just awards, which go after your name. Olivier2002, Nobel laureate vs Sir Olivier2002. Edit: added quote

I am in Dubai next few days and have a upgrade voucher that expires in a week. Won't have time to ship it internationally but if someone wants it I can dispatch it locally.

Ahh right, India abolished all titles in 1950. Forgot that part of civics :o

Airport security - remove shoes and belts?

First trip to India coming up, and will have many intra-India flights.

Are you required to remove shoes and belts during the screening process at Indian airports?

Is the carry-on liquid restriction the same as the US?

1) no. Everyone gets a pat down, so it doesn't really matter if you set the WTMD off
2) yes

I saw someone get a 1L bottle of water through. First she told him that it was not allowed, he took a big sip and showed her it was drinkable and she allowed it.

Is that right?

Yes, with water.

I do this all the time, but when flying internationally ex-BOM, the CISF do not allow it any longer.

Wow... Didn't know that. I am used to all water being taken off me that is over 100ml.

?? :)

If this is what I think it is then no comments ;)

CISF interprets the regulations quite leisurely. The BOM 100ml restriction must have been due to a recent audit ;) Especially when BOM-EWR direct flights are scheduled to leave.

Yeah, it depends on the sun and the stars and the moon. They seem to be applying more common sense over the last couple of years though, and have stopped bothering when the quantities are small. So a bunch of small bottles of toiletries and meds that used to have to fit in the zippy bag that had to be removed from the carry on and placed on the belt just stay in my carry on now.

I forgot all about the dumb rule and happily carried on a vat of xacutti from Goa to Bombay. No one batted an eyelid.

The most retarded have to be the Brits. I had a half empty cough syrup bottle. The label said 110 ml. Heathrow securitywalli threw a fit and confiscated my medicine.
