  • Login problems: If you have trouble logging into the Iberia website, type in your number and password by hand instead of using autocomplete. For some people this fixes login issues.
  • Partner awards: Many flights on partners will not be available as one-way. You must redeem AA flights as a round trip for example
  • Cancellations: Iberia awards on AA cannot be cancelled.
Iberia Plus offer 9000 per booking 21/JUN to 24/JUN on iberia.com
Terms and conditions of the offer are to be found here in post 14.

This is essentially correct, as a general rule one does not need to bother too much about middle names when travelling (and for a lot of people in the world it is simply impossible for their passport name to match the boarding pass exactly).

However, I would not use your solution. I think it is better to drop or abbreviate one of your first names, rather than writing one of them as a surname.

I confirmed with BA, it will not be a problem. First and last name is the only thing needed, it just contradicts what I am used to, where it requires names to match the passport (or so it says). They say that often the names are pulled together, and that is not an issue. For the future I’ll just use first and last name, as I now have in writing from BA that this is okay.

someone please update the wiki, I can not edit

elmoufoken / SELF / New / 2018 / DOCS / UNVERIFIED / NOT POSTED / 90K PTS / Duplicate Account / IB+ call center operator confirmed I dont have duplicate account, Sent email with doc and form to IB+, account still locked. 9 of 10 booking got cancelled by them without my instruction, deposit of 7 out of 8 have not been refunded. 1 booking still alive.

Booked 10 tickets, all different routes. 9 booking were paid with 5 euros for deposit and paid the rest amount later, 1 was done straightly with full payment.

July 04: Account locked as reason for duplicate, IB+ call center operator confirmed no duplicate account on me. sent doc and form to IB+, no response
July 09: received email of cancellation and refund of 8 bookings. I have not instructed them for that. Sent email, no response
July 11: received refund of those 8 bookings in 3 transactions, with only received 1 deposit back, other deposits were missing.
July 11: received email of cancellation and refund of 1 bookings. Also I have not instructed them for that.
July 13: received full refund with deposit of this booking in 2 transactions.

I have called them for many times and got confirmed from a number of operators that I do not have duplicate account.
They have cancelled my 9 bookings, and 8 deposits of those are missing. 1 booking still alive. I have not instructed any of these to be cancelled and refunded.
Called them many times but only with answer to send email, however, no response since

The Iberia agent was nearly correct, there are several million people on this planet with just one name! So yes, for most people, first and last name is sufficient, and this "matching passport name" is constrained by the number of spaces that Amadeus (and other systems) have available. Plus the fact that the majority of people do not have their names sourced in the Latin alphabet, these are transliterations. First name and lfamily name works for Russia, it works for China, it works for the USA, it even works for Ryanair. For Iberia you have to be careful in this area due to the presence of matronymics in Spanish and related cultures, which can end up with unexpected consequences since that it may mean family names are not present on the booking.

Has anyone tried to transfer miles from BA to top up the IB promo miles to get an award? I'd like to do that to prevent some of these promo miles from going to waste, but not sure what happens when you intermingle them with regular miles.

Flights refunded but 90k avios still posted?

June 23: created new account during promo.
June 23: booked 10 flights.
June 23: credit card billed.
Account locked as with many others.
July 3: sent in verification information.
July 7: refund issues (without my request) for all 10 flights to credit card?!
July 16: account unlocked.
July 17: 90k avoid posted?!

Umm... What do I do? Will the 90k avoids be clawed backed because of the refunds I did NOT ask for?

Same here. Yesterday I sent email to classica, today morning got reply that they sent all the info to relevant deparment and "you should see these credit in your account very shortly"

Thank you.

BA have, however, confirmed that when traveling to the US the name will need to match because of the ESTA. My booking is with Iberia MAD-SFO, so I guess I'll need to send them an email to confirm in writing that there should be no issue with that.

BA said that my name needed to match the ESTA or visa when traveling TO a country. Is there a similar requirement for the inbound flight, i.e. can I just use my first + last name FROM the US to London?

Sorry for the slight OT.

To get back on track: My other half have not heard anything from Iberia still, except for the email requesting ID + tickets, which have been sent 2 weeks ago. Anybody else in the same situation? No inconcistencies, no duplicate accounts. There should be no issues, but they have not replied.

The first and family name, typically a patronymic, need to match, no other names need to match. The electronic handshake with the DHS uses passport issue country, the passport number and expiry date as the primary keys, and then a pattern match on the name to ensure that is more or less as expected. For visas the match is on the visa foil number, typically the red number in the bottom right part of the visa. If you consider all those people with visas and ESTAs that have Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Hindu names, there is no way you can precisely match the source name on the passport hence the pattern matching for that. Middle names are not included in the pattern matching due to patronymics and matronymics getting transposed within family groups. The handshake is automated and so long as it comes back OK (e.g. you can check in online) then the ground agents aren't much involved thereafter.

Wow, lucky you if this is indeed true. I gave up on them with the whole duplicate situation due to their awful IT, and just got the refund.

Yep, it wasn't a problem. I moved 10K BA Avios into my IB account to top the 90k promo avios up to 100K for a one way BA F redemption. My wife did the same but using AMEX MR points.

Okay - this is infuriating.

On some bookings I have been refunded in Dollars which is fine.

On others I've been refunded in EUROS which then knock a chunk off each transaction - multiply that by 10 and its a few meals out!

Any suggestions?

I assume you have an old Iberia Plus account? I want to transfer my BA Avios to Iberia but I was told new accounts have to be at least 90 days old in order to do that.

Finally received my 90K today. For those who have received the canned emails from Iberia saying they are processing it, they do actually seem to be doing it. It took 10 days from the point they sent that email to the points being posted for me, so hang in there.
