I had a nice chat today with Marie Hedelin, the charming Guest Relations Manager at the PH Vendome. She was amused that there was a thread on FlyerTalk about the change in Blaise Mautin scent. She said the change resulted from complaints that the old scent was too strong. She also commented that the new shampoo is much better.
I must agree with her second comment. The new shampoo is much nicer (in my humble opinion) and seems to both clean and provide more volume to my hair.
I suggested that perhaps the hotel can provide both scents and let the client decide. I mentioned to Marie that during my recent stay at the Conrad Algarve, I had a choice of three different toiletry lines. It will be wonderful if the hotel decides to offer both the old and the new scents.
After a long day of walking, shopping, and eating, I returned to my room to find another set of the old toiletries. Happy Face x 10!

An Embarrassment of Riches
I returned to my room this afternoon to another bag of the old Blaise Mautin toiletries, courtesy of Marie Hedelin.
Since I only like the bath/shower gel, I will be happy to share the rest. I haven't taken inventory yet of what's in the bag. However, in addition to what I've already set aside for SanDiego1K, I think I have four more sets of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion to give away. If SanDiego1K only wants body lotion, then I have more shampoo and conditioner to share.
Rules of the Game:
1. Post in this thread a special memory that you've had at the PH Vendome and what the old Blaise Mautin scent evokes for you - i.e. similar to Marcel Proust and his "recherche au temps perdu."
2. I will select four winners or more, depending on how many sets I've got.
3. If selected, you must email Marie Hedelin and thank her.
4. You will contribute at least $10 to a charity of your choice.
Fortunately, for once, I am not traveling with just a 22" roll-a-board. I will be home in late June and will post the winners list and ask for mailing addresses at that time.
Bonne chance tout le monde.

Since no one wants to "play", I will be shipping everything to SanDiego1K next week for her to enjoy or dispose of as she sees fit.

Bonne chance tout le monde.
So we start out in Spain, spend 9 days in Barcelona, Granada, Seville, and Malaga. She's loving it so far. She only complaints are a lack of privacy and the general condition of most hostels' bathroom areas. At this point, I'm thinking, just wait, there's a pot of gold at the end...
Same story in Italy. We actually hitchhike there twice, couchsurf, and stay at 2 hostels, one of which was subpar, and that's saying a lot coming from me. She's still loving it, but misses some of the 'comforts'...
So finally, I let out the big secret. We were supposed to fly back from Rome. But instead we head to Paris. And stay at the PH Vendome, a three night stay. She's shocked. Completely surprised. First thing we do is take a long shower, using the Blaise amenities. She mentioned that it 'smells like heaven'.
Even a few weeks later, when we look at all the pictures from the trip, we think back to that first shower at the Vendome. Unfortunately, we couldn't take but one or two bottles of shampoo because we each only traveled with a back-pack. It would come as a wonderful surprise if I were to give her one of the amenity bags!
I wasn't planning on going into all the other details, but saw your message and decided to share my cool story.

Latest email received from PH Vendome - Victory!
"Ive forwarded your nice stories to Blaise Mautin (the real one, the one and only Blaise!) We have a lot of guests asking for the old fragrance, so we will definitely keep 2 sets one old and one new, so that the guest can choose."

1) The point ^
2) The enthusiasm - they get it
3) This has to be the product of a team decision and effort
Not necessarily in the above order.
