There are legitimate cases where this would be possible, such as a night at Hyatt Regency Guam followed by a night on the same date at Hyatt Regency Waikiki.

And pretty much that's the only time you can get credit for 2 stays on the same night. Even so, you'll have to call in for it.

You might be able to get two stay credits if you have a day rate (for example at an airport hotel) and then stay overnight at a different hotel, presumably arriving late in the evening at a different airport. [However, a day use room might not lead to a night credit. IIRC this is how SPG handles the situation.] If you pay a regular night rate but only use the room during the day or pay a full night to guarantee early check in or a very late check out, again you legitimately might be able to count the same night elsewhere too.

My personal attitude is that if the credit is questionable, you don't want to count on it for requalifying for status, while if you don't absolutely need it for status, then it really doesn't matter. For attaining a new status level during the year, I can't see Hyatt later trying to claw back benefits that were previously used, such as sending a bill for a Diamond breakfast that was consumed after your account was erroneously upgraded to Diamond. In these cases, most people would do at least one additional Hyatt stay before the end of the year to enjoy the new benefits, so that they would have a few excess stay/night credits in case they're needed. Again, IMO it would be wise to arrange this if it doesn't happen naturally as the end of the year approaches.

Due to the unique circumstances for hotels that are near the International Date Line, it may be possible for you to have stays at two separate hotels on the same night. You will need to contact us on the phone to have both stays posted to your account.

If you have two reservations booked in the same city for the same night you would only be eligible to receive the tier credit and points for one reservation since you can only be in one hotel at a time.

I had one night at HP Las Vegas (checked in at around 3pm and left at around 6pm) then caught a flight to LAX and stayed for a night at the Concourse the same day and received stay credits for both properties.

LAS and LAX are probably too close if you had to convince them to manually give you 2 stay/night credits - that said, it does happen though but don't count on it.

I'd like to ask what you needed that room for three hours for...but what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

I recently had a one-night stay out of town. Air con went out at home while I was gone, so I booked local Hyatt for my wife same day, since it was unbearably hot.

Out of town stay posted automatically. Call #1 to Hyatt Diamond line with explanation of my very legitimate situation asking for additional stay credit led to posting of points and Diamond bonus for local stay, but no stay credit. Call #2 led to posting of additional points and Diamond bonus, PLUS Diamond amenity and stay credit.^

In this case, your account should be audited and the points/nights/stay credit removed for the hotel where your wife, but not you, stayed. You never intended to stay there and it was wrong to attempt to attach your HGP account number to the reservation. It's your HGP account, not a number to be shared with family and friends.

Moreover, if your wife received any elite perks such as an upgrade, late checkout, or lounge access, the hotel would be well within its rights to send you a bill for the cost.

Guest Of Honor privileges apply when a Diamond uses his/her own points to book a room for a guest. In this case, it was a paid stay and the Diamond member was in a completely different city. It appears that Hyatt allowed Diamond privileges and credits, however they were under no obligation to do so.

True, but I would describe the situation as Hyatt being unaware that the OP wasn't physically staying in both hotels. Since this seems to have been a deliberate deception, it seems to me to be more like fraud than a mistake. For all we know, other elites who were entitled to published elite benefits (such as upgraded rooms) did not receive them that night in the wife's hotel because she received inappropriate benefits due to her husband's status which is not transferable on ordinary non-award reservations.
