Why Summerlin Area?

Hard to hear the highway noise over the AC buzz

But I agree, the HP Silverton is pretty nice, and reasonably convenient to where I need/want to be. The other HP is a dump and after another stay last year (hoping they would have improved) I will never go back there.

Because it's convenient. For me. 🙃

TBH there aren't many good options out in Summerlin... the Red Rock is pretty great but other than that, there's not much out there.

The HP LAS Airport finally got new TVs, at least

Looking forward to trying the Silverton, will ask about the west rooms

According to the attached Forbes interview with Hyatt CCO Mark Vondrasek issued last week, when asked about the unraveling Hyatt-MGM partnership he said Hyatt has "quite a few" projects for Las Vegas, including the Dream on the southern end of the Strip and the Rio becoming "multiple" Hyatt-branded properties... so it would appear that the plan to outwardly Hyatt brand the towers of the Rio is still happening.

I would expect the Rio to join Hyatt as an independent property later this year, until renovations reach a satisfying enough point to rebrand the Ipanema Tower as a Hyatt Regency and the future renovations of the Masquerade Tower to yield one or two more individually branded properties.

I was just looking at the source code of hyatt.com and it looks like the spirit code for Rio Hotel & Casino is LASDH and the opening date is Oct 1. Which would mean that the Rio will open initially as a Destination by Hyatt. That makes a lot of sense.

They can cut rooms over to Hyatt Regency and whatever other upmarket brands are as they are renovated.

Curious we have heard nothing. So are they just literally planning on bringing it online in like 9 days without saying anything? The system still populates only mgm stuff even until next year, despite showing those hotels as unavailable. Doesn't load any Rio stuff even with a 2024 date.

Seems like it.

We're dealing with multiple parties here - Hyatt's existing contract with MGM, Caesars's currently controlling Rio, and Hyatt taking over actual day to day hotel management - which is a big deal. These days Vegas is normally franchised.

If you go to caesars.com Rio isn't taking bookings for 10/1 to 10/5 (probably for the cutover). The "big bang" approach is pretty normal when a hotel changes flags, especially when it goes to a temporary brand while renovations continue.

Well either way that's a very useful bit of info for sure. I'll be checking on Oct 1 and see what happens. The ideal outcome is getting a full service actual Hyatt near the strip with real glob benefits and a reasonable or great price. Doubt it but we'll see.

Unrelated, Frasier is in my opinion the greatest, most hilarious, best written and intelligent sitcom ever made. Am currently rewatching it start to finish for the I don't even know how many-th time.

OT: if you are team Maris or team Mel, nothing compares to Bebe Glazer :

Back on topic:
Hope the new Rio won't have room #666 occupied by Bebe herself

Authentic guaranteed Hyatt Globalists benefits at the Rio hotel BUT at what cost ......?

at 1.45 : Hyatt Globalist recognition versus .... no recognition at all
"that's what you want, fame & power!"

at 2.45 : dillema choice of staying on the LV Strip or Hyatt Globalist at the Rio hotel Las Vegas
"Join me Frasier, what i'm offering is priceless ....."

That is a really bad thing if it indeed goes to destination by Hyatt, as isnt that means they don't need to give any kind of benefits ? (I was reading the thread with those destination by Hyatt condos)

Destination by Hyatt Hotels do get benefits, Destination by Hyatt Residences (I.e. Hyatt managed vacation rentals) do not.

I’m surprised Hyatt hasn’t dumped the latter business TBH because they aren’t growing it and that fad in hotel loyalty has passed.

I was firmly on team MGM dumped Hyatt for Marriott (and why wouldn’t they after seeing how popular Cosmo is) but I overlooked the franchised vs managed thing. Hilton at Resorts World is a franchise and a disaster.

If experiences truly matter more than points, as Hyatt have said, then having a managed property is probably better for retaining your guests than getting zero tangible benefits at MGM properties.

Truly a deal with the Bebe. 😈

Well the two HP in Vegas are both Cat 3, so I wouldnt surprise if Rio land at Cat 3 or even Cat 4 after they complete their renovation
