Well I just managed a rate of £65 for an Ocean View inc Breakfast for August next year via an OTA. Looking at Tripadvisor there seems to be a number of restaurants and bars within 1-1.5KM so not really sure I understand the above comments.

I have managed a number of BRGs this year as well. In September I snagged a handful of nights at $55.

Transportation is advisable and each stay we've had a car so that's not been a problem. It's not a far walk to Kamala proper and there is an occasional shuttle that runs, but I tend go further afield.

Spent 5 nights here in early November 2015, and overall, were pretty disappointed. We hit all four Hyatt beach resorts in SE Asia this summer (Bali, Danang, Hua Hin, and Phuket), and IMO, this is the weakest option.

We got a standard club room (not sure, why; occupancy was low) in building 12. These rooms have a ton of bathroom space, but not any living area worth mentioning. The building is dug into the mountain, so you start out at street level and descend into what feels a little bit like a concrete bunker. Somewhat depressing, and very noisy (we were woken up around midnight a couple of times by other guests' shouting). The view from the room is limited unless you stand right on the balcony (concrete all around); the room is very dark. I've stayed in several hillside resorts this summer (Conrad Samui, IC Danang, Westin Phuket), and all pull it off better than this HR.

There's no beach, and the pool is oddly unappealing (grain of salt: we spent the last three months around beaches and pools). There's a shuttle to Kamala beach, but it only seats 8-10 and doesn't run very frequently. The beach is busy with tourists and touts, so not really worth going. If you don't want to deal with the shuttle or the THB200 price tag for a 5-minute taxi ride, it's about a 20-minute walk into town, less than 10 minutes to the nearest 7/11.

The highlight is the club. Great view, super friendly & helpful staff, above-average offerings. The evening spread is top notch, with salads, cold cuts, canapes, and a BBQ station with a chef who cooks various meat dishes. Drinkable wines, free-flowing decent alcohol, no objections to taking soft drinks to your room. Breakfast can be taken at the restaurant, but it's a bit of a mass affair, so we preferred the club.

Ranking: In terms of hard product, I like this property least of Bali/Danang/Hua Hin. A better upgrade might push it up a notch (I haven't seen some of the rooms others raved about), but the poor layout, lack of beach, poor execution of golf cart service, will always be a downer. In terms of club lounge: we are comparing fairly strong lounges, but I'd put Bali and Danang ahead of this. You can absolutely have all your meals at this lounge, so if that's what you're after, it's not a bad place. In terms of beach and overall location, HR Phuket ranks dead last. I won't be rushing back.

Decent Resort but Rooms Far Too Small (2 Photos)

Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort

We checked in around 15 hours ago and are checking out early and moving to the Westin Siray Bay.

Booked and paid for a Deluxe Ocean View Pool King and walked in to find hard of the 105sqm is, in fact, the balcony and pool. On top of that the building in front is obstructing half of the view. The high concrete walls give an enclosed compound feeling and the aspect of the resort means you will get very little direct sunlight if any. The room is also not designed for eating meals, we had to sit on the bed while eating room service which took over an hour to be delivered.

Woke up this morning and decided would most likely get cabin fever if we stayed. We come to Thailand to relax by a private pool and this hotel is not designed for this.

To be fair Diamond recognition has been great. Treated very well at check in, escorted to the room by front desk agent, emails and phone calls from managers on duty to make sure we were happy. Noticed staff knew who we were when they called me by name. Standard Hyatt procedure to VIP Diamonds but given they I hadn't given the front desk agent my name or room when asking for change they must be using passport photos for recognition.

We did not use the club lounge, however breakfast in the Pool Bar was very good with Eggs Benedict made to order and the lattes well made.

The hotel did offer to upgrade us to a 2 Bedroom Suite, however we really want a pool.

Location wise the hotel is in a MUCH busier location than the Westin. We don't visit Patong nor like the crowd it attracts. This only added to the need to have a comfortable large room because we din't plan to leave the resort.

In hindsight I should have anticipated this. We normally book suites as a minimum or villas for the space, but I wanted to give the HR a try. There are also some build quality issues with tiles missing from the balcony and the finishes but that's to be expected in Phuket it seems!

The hotel has current model E Classes that was a great way to arrive and depart.

Upon check out management were very apologetic. The Assistant Front Office Manager told me they are converting the spa into one bedroom suites, alas still with no pool. They even called the hotel we were moving to and ensured we could check in straight away. I feel guilty because their service was exemplary.

For what it's worth for the price of the room we booked we could get a One Bedroom Sala Pool Villa at the Westin which is much bigger, has a better view and aspect with sunshine all day until sunrise on the pool and balcony and where villa guests are treated the same as elites.

Hi guys,
I'm checking into this property as a Diamond in a couple of weeks and wanted to get your input on these rooms that I'm eyeing to stay in (subjected to availability of course).

1. Club Deluxe Pool King
This appears to be the most-premium room that is available. I don't require the sun nor sunbathe so I'm happy with it being 'dark' most of the time but not sure if the pool is that great as reviewed by many travelers.

2. Club Ocean View Terrace
This one seems interesting as it appears to be a corner room with a MASSIVE terrace? It looks good from photo with a fantastic view but practicality wise I'm not sure if such a large terrace is any use?

Would appreciate any additional input or pointers?

1. We didn't even use it. The pool isn't for swimming unlike those at the Westin Siray Bay. It's more a splash pool.

2. These rooms look tiny in the description and your balcony can be viewed by other people.

There are some references to the Westin in this thread and how the HR compares with the Westin. What about Hilton vs HR?

I just finished a stay here. I reached out ahead of time asking about using my DSU, and was given the upgrade without them deducting the awards. All the staff, including Ruben (Director of Operations), were attentive and helpful. The club is nice and has a great view.

Regarding taxis, you can use an app called "Grab Taxi" or walk a little further down the road to get a better fare than at the entrance of the resort.

For HKT in general, the Taxi Mafia situation hasn't really improved. There are tariffs now, but often no drivers willing to drive at the tariffed rate, only at a higher one they set

I've always found it better to rent a car in HKT. By the time you add up all of the extortionate taxi fares, it works out in your favor to rent.

Isn't HR Phuket exempt from DSU?

Actually, they are building one bedroom suites. Direct word from the manager when I stayed. They will not, however, feature a pool.

If you're on site they are converting the green building which may be the current spa?

Upgrading Initiatives for Suites, Spa and the beach

Our Upgrading Projects to Enhance Your Experience
Since our opening in December 2013, Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort has committed to deliver quality products and services. We strive to be your preferred resort - in both Phuket and Thailand.

We will be embarking on a number of Resort upgrading initiatives, details as follows:
• The adding of a contemporary Premier Suite Two Bedroom;
• The adding of 7 luxurious, spacious suites uniquely located on the very top of the resort;
• The enhancement of our current 14 Jacuzzi-Terrace Rooms which will feature enhanced outdoor facilities such as a private dining and lounging area and an undercover ocean view Jacuzzi;
• The upgrading of our current Sunset Grill facilities.
• The relocation of the Spa facility to be located in the lower area of the resort, close to the pool;
• The beautification of the beach area directly in front of the Resort with new landscaping. We will also build a 220 meter long tidal jetty, this key feature allowing guests to swim in the sea as well as to dive the reef directly in front of the Resort.

These Resort enhancements will commence from June 1st 2016 and we expect the completion to be by mid-September 2016.

Although we expect audible disturbance within the first 30 days in certain areas of the resort, please rest assured that the hotel’s project teams are very experienced and cautious about balancing the needs of our guests with the demands of the project. We will limit the working hour to be 9am to 5pm daily. Our top priority will be to ensure that any potential disturbance will be kept to a minimum and we expect no major disruption to the day-to-day operations of the hotel.

We apologise for any inconvenience these Resort enhancements may cause.

The team is committed to ensuring that guest satisfaction, comfort and convenience, as well as prompt and efficient service remain our top priority during this time.

We will keep you informed on any developments related to these exciting resort enhancements. We are extremely grateful for your ongoing support and patronage!

If you require any further assistance or more information, please contact our reservation team at T: +66 76 231 236, E: [email protected]

Sincere regards,
Management Team

They need real suites, the Pool Deluxe just don't cut it. And none of them will have a plunge pool.
