I wasn't too impressed when I stayed at this property in July. The Diamond recognition was non existent. The room was OK but very small compared to other PH's I have stayed at. I had a look at the "Diamond" breakfast buffet in the morning but decided to skip it. Nothing special at all.

The stay never posted to my account and the hotel didn't reply to GP. After a month the GP agreed to credit the stay when they hadn't heard back from the hotel.

IMHO this should rather be Hyatt Regency than a Park Hyatt property.

To be honest I wasn't satisfied with the Renaissance hotel either.

I'd read good things about this hotel until I came across this and the above post...I found a good price $250 incl taxes and b'fast, but that still is a lot of money to me as this is a personal trip and I'm on a bit of a budget.

Any cheaper alternatives that are worthwhile or should I just stick with the PH?

I have always enjoyed my stays at the PH Saigon, and while I think that it is a fine hotel in a greate location, it is not in the same category as the Park Hyatts in Paris, Milan and Buenos Aires.

The last time that I stayed, the corporate rate was about $144 but I note that this has now increased to $170.

I suggest that you hunt for some corporate rate that you can use - or do a search on this forum for "Stay Certificates" and see if you can get a better deal

The PH has the best consistent service in Saigon. The Sheraton is the next inline and then you have the Caravelle, Sofitel and the Renaissance. If you are looking for value and quality around $150, the Sofitel and the Renaissance is the top choice. The price of the high-end hotels room in Saigon has risen almost 80% since the last 2 years.

Arrived last night, the amenity is:
1 bottle "Pigmentum" Cahors 2004 Red wine (2 buck chuck? actually quite nice for a cheap bottle of wine)
1 box fig/nut squares (my wife described them as gormet granola bars, not very good)
1 fruit plate
The hotel is busy and HCM City is growing like a weed! There are so many new shops and the overplaced price we went for drinks (Xu) last night actually had other people in it...

For those wanting a colonial atmosphere, The Majestic and The Continental are options. As I recall Graham Greene wrote The Quiet American while staying in one of them. Then there is The Rex...so over the top 60s, complete with beaded curtains, it's fun for a day or so..but I still like the Hyatt.

The location of Park Hyatt Saigon is really fantastic, within walking distance to almost everything. They gave me a small fruit cake in place of the chocolates that I received in other Hyatt as Diamond amenity.

The hotel is indeed very busy, but the front desk girl still escorted me to my room.

Stayed here for 3 nights after Christmas using FFN. Arrived late via ICN and got a prepaid cab at the airport ($6). Got 2 connecting rooms on the 8th floor - liked the rooms. There were decent size and the ceiling fans were a nice touch. Fairly large bathrooms too.

Got a fruit plate for each room every day. Diamond amenity was a fruit cake covered in icing and decorated with a Christmas tree.

As others have said, location is great. Cabs are plentiful. Didn't have any issues when leaving early in the morning for the airport. The bellman gave me a piece of paper with the cab # should there be any problems. Just ended up paying the flat rate.

I'm just stayed at the PH Saigon, on FFN. Upon checkin, I asked about using the Diamond suite upgrade certificate to move to a suite (I had looked the previous day and seen that suites were still available for sale for my dates). The hotel ended up very graciously accepting it (I think they must very rarely see one of these ) after noting that I was only staying 3 nights, so less than the maximum 4 nights the cert is good for. The suite wasn't going to be ready until ~5pm (3 hrs time), so we got checked into the originally assigned room and was told that they would move all our luggage for us.

After seeing the regular rooms and the suites, I would say the suites are much much nicer. They are more than twice the size (70 square meters) vs the rooms which feel cramped at 34 sq meters. The room I was originally assigned had a small fruit plate, and a bottle of wine and a box of white chocolate truffles was sent up. The suite contained a huge fruit platter (that ended up being replenished daily), a different bottle of wine (presumably higher quality) and different sweets. I didn't bother packing up the opened box of chocolates & the unopened bottle of wine, thinking that it would also make it to the new room. Unfortunately, I think they got discarded (but on the bright side, I could do without the extra calories...).

As previously noted, the hotel is wonderfully located. From the airport, the meter on the taxi read ~65,000 dong or about $4 (with regular traffic). I got a prepaid taxi voucher for $6 b/c I had difficulties with the airport taxi in Hanoi. I would simply use the meter in the future though. Just a word of warning--the airport prepaid taxi desk originally quoted me a $12 rate (after asking what hotel I was going to). When I started walking away, the rate dropped to $10 and then finally $6 after I said that I read that the prepaid rate was 100K dong. She said that the original price was for a special car, and the $6 price was for a regular taxi. Somehow I doubt that they have a special car available... This actually encapsulated a lot of my experience in Vietnam (as an obvious tourist).

also I have a suite upgrade. should I put that in the booking or wait till I arrive.

There is wired internet for ~$15-18 day. However, I was able to get some free wireless signals from one of the nearby hotels (room faced opera square). It wasn't that strong but sufficient to quickly check email, etc.

Suite upgrades via the diamond certificates are based upon availability upon checkin. If you're staying on an eligible rate, then sure, I would put the request in the booking, otherwise I would wait until check-in

well Im in house now

on checking in got a deluxe room which is one of 9 with a little terrace facing the pool.
it s very nice to sit there in the afternoon and have a quiet drink.(duty free moet at $US41)

the hotel is a little too comfortable and we have only ventured down the street for some retail therapy.
the spa is fab with the best massage I have ever had and its cheap!

going back today. they need this room so are upgraded me to a suite.
the suite has a huge bathroom and small kithcen with sink and large frute bowl bottle of red win and nice choc dipped orange peel
lovely white roses in each room and yes there was free internet but not a secure one


the hotel could not be more accommodating.. the staff is beyond excellent. I think this is my favourite hyatt.and believe me as almost lifetime diamond Ive seen a few.
the food in ONE was superb and the breakfast is exceptional.measures the GH HK

Once again, I am in the room facing the Opera House, nice view. It's a comfy hotel and you really don't feel like venturing out, except for the KFC at the corner or the latte.
