"No windows whatsoever" doesn't mean windowless.... You shouldn't make statements based on photo's provided by the property that are there for promotional use and don't really resemble the actual situation (ultra wide lens, brightly lit showing the only real window there is and with fictional furniture). Stay there and experience the lounge yourself, then comment in a review thread.

But someone said it better than I did describing it as "dungeon-like". That's exactly what it is... in the Caribbean no less.

This is a pretty decent property if you get a good room. Stay here for the beach and the island, not for 5-star service or the lounge :-).

Does anybody know if you can use gift cards at this location? Specifically, not the plastic ones, the egift cards. Thanks!

We had a six-night stay last month, all with points/free nights. While I was not upgraded, I was given a number of extras: double coupons for free appy's and drinks, and a bottle of wine was sent to my room. When I asked for additional apps/drink coupons, they were immediately delivered. As I recently retired, I will be a Globalist only thru next February, so we have booked another points visit for January. This time, I have been confirmed with a DSU in advance (or is it GSU?).

Thanks for the update NJTraveler! Much appreciated.

I'm thinking of trying out one of the Jetblue Mint JFK - AUA flights and combining it with a stay here.

How was the Globalist breakfast? In the lounge? Was the hotel full and that's why no upgrade?

Again this is not recent (2013) but my experience at this property was so much different. Was a 10-year Diamond at the time with 2 rooms on points, and we were given the worst possible rooms and in general the folks working there seemed unhappy and just doing their jobs. The beach and pools were very nice but not much more. Perhaps they were short-staffed that week or whatever but this is still at the bottom of my list for future vacations.

We just went. They also delivered wine to our room and gave us a couple drink coupons. Everyone is very nice to be and the kids here. I love this hotel, this is our second time. I find it to be very nice.
I was disappointed that they charged me a resort charge of 49 usd a day. I complained and they called the front desk and said globalist only get resort fees waived not resort charges. I wish I would of realized this in advance.
They did accept my us Hyatt gift cards if anyone was wondering.

thanks for the update njny and cayann!

what's the difference between a resort charge and a resort fee? isn't that essentially the same thing? i would see if you can escalate that to hyatt concierge and ask them. it sounds like another way for them to weasel out of giving us our globalist benefits. it doesn't make sense if the property can call a resort fee whatever they want.

I think Cayann26 resort charge may have been for extra charge items like beach palapa that I think is $15 or something
Hopefully they can clarify because I was wondering too.

No, we also rented cabanas that was a seperate line item. Her explaination of the charge was the exact same thing as a resort fee,.I argued for a while and had them call the manager but I was getting nowhere, I just got back last night, and plan to call hyatt. Not sure if it will help, but it can't hurt. I will let you know what they say.

I love it. Globalists are exempt from resort FEES but they must pay resort CHARGES. What will happen next?
  • Breakfast is free but Morning Meals are chargeable
  • One bottle of water per day is free, but you kept the bottle over night so it's chargeable
  • The best available room is free, however once we assigned you to the room, it was no longer available, so there's an extra charge.
  • Checkin is at 3 pm but you missed it by 22 seconds so there's an extra charge.

Strange things happen when words get twisted and redefined.

Anyone stay here recently and have an issue like this? I imagine this thread would have more data points if this continued to be an issue. Thanks

I called Hyatt about this and pmed them on here, I got the same answer resort charges aren't waved only resort fees. If anyone has a different experience I would also love to here about it. Maybe I could still get a credit.
With that being said, I have been there twice now, and even if I have to pay a resort charge I will still go back again. The hotel is amazing.

Booked here for the end of February using Amex FHR.

A couple of questions:

I booked a basic room, hoping for a sea view room on upgrade. Should I rebook a better room if I want a sea view?

I noticed when I read the confirmation that we only get a continental breakfast. Can’t find any mention of a continental breakfast apart from in the club lounge. Do you automatically get a club room? Which doesn’t get great reviews. Or what are the arrangements?

Thanks for any help.
