Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

As a newly minted Hyatt Platinum, can any one tell me how well I would be treated/upgraded here, what is usual here? Thank you.
As Platinum here what room would I need to book to receive club/lounge access, and is lounge access worth having here?

Platinum Bennies T+C say (but this is a first for me)....

o Enjoy a preferred room including rooms on higher floors or larger rooms, based on availability upon arrival (@1)

(@1)Excludes Regency Club® and Grand Club® rooms and suites. Not available at Hyatt Place properties, Hyatt House properties, and Hyatt Residence Club resorts.

Have only ever stayed as diamond, so don't know what benefits you may receive other than comp internet etc.

To receive a room with club access, you need to book a Club room or suite, or achieve diamond status before your stay. Club access is definitely worth it in Bangkok - one of the best lounges out there. Having said that, food is not expensive to buy out in Thailand.

I would never stay at this property without lounge access. You can simply book a club room, or use points to upgrade to either a suite or club room.

If you have a corporate rate, ask if they can offer you a lower rate for a club room. Full daily rate for a club room at this property is very expensive for what it is, IMO.

I respectfully disagree with you on the above highlighted sentence ... although it's a great suggestions to buy up to club access.

Back in early 2009, I participated in Hyatt's "The Big Welcome Sweepstakes" becoming a Hyatt Gold Passport (HGP) member for the first time and won a one night stay at any Hyatt property worldwide. In July 2009, I was in Bangkok and used this free night ... WOW! I was blown away by the great treatment, the room, and other amenities. I was given 4 one hundred Baht F&B vouchers by the concierge who I never met before to use at any hotel outlet. I tried to pay for these vouchers to no avail as he refused to take my money saying that they were not for sale. The butler service for continental breakfast from 6-10 AM was a great benefit for lowly Gold members such as myself at the time. Those are just two examples of very small gestures but good enough to get my loyalty. That winter I did my first mattress run ever and got my Hyatt Diamond status plus earning 9 nights at any Hyatt plus around 50K HGP points ... and the rest is history. To make the long story short: This Hyatt Erawan made me do it!

In-room comped cont breakfast for HGP members served by a butler

Other reasons to stay:

- The central location, direct access to BTS, and its proximity to the Erawan Shrine which is one of my favorite sites in Bangkok.

- Live Jazz in the hotel lobby in the early evenings daily. Although anyone can just come in and sit in the lobby and enjoy the music, I prefer coming down to having some cold sparkling water and just kick back and relax for a while during the live show.

Splashing holly water to all the right spots!

This is what I meant. I was not saying that one would be better off staying elsewhere than at the Erawan without club access, but that I personally would never stay without club access. (I mostly stay in the spa cottages, which include club access in addition to other benefits).

BTW, what you received was the GP members' room service coffee and pastry benefit, which has since been discontinued (although they will still provide it for regular guests on request). This is different from a continental breakfast, which would include fruit.

Are the renovations completed yet and are the chances to get upgrades to suites better now with the reno almost complete?

I have two 1 night stays coming up in July and trying to decide between the SPG's hotels or this hotel. I guess things have calmed down as I have not see the rate much less than the St. Regis.

what are the chances of getting a BRG for this hotel?

I may be wrong here, but I had the understanding they did typically upgrade without a DSU. I think the chances of a BRG are fairly good. I checked a few dates in July and the hotel search engines are showing lower prices than Hyatt.com

Maybe I missed something, but I've only just found out that GH Erawan is an FHR property. $100 spa service is pretty nice as well as full breakfast. There again, the 4 seasons is available for €110/night...

For the dates I checked, the lowest rate on FHR for the 4S showing $200 per night, while the Grand Hyatt is $167. The rate for both properties to include breakfast, upgrade, and other benefits.

The €110 ($149) per night you mentioned above is it on a third-party website (such as Expedia, etc.)? and it does not include breakfast and benefits?

It's 3-for-2 (I looked for Feb next year) and would be bookable through a FSPP. However, love the GH, so a difficult call.

Checked in today.

Nice lobby, efficient staff. Good location. Normally stay at the Pen and this place is far more convenient for shopping ECt.

Club a pleasant place but very similar to an airport lounge (biz class). Nothing to compare with GH Hong Kong.

Rooms, not sure. In a club view. Not overly excited about the bathroom and I think this place will age really quickly. I think they have gone a little too much retro. Hate the brown tiles and the cheap black furniture. It is serious cheap.

No privacy with the toilet which has a glass wall, not great when your wiping your butt.....

Not sure I would stay again which is a shame. A little bit of a disappointment.

Had a serious cheap rate so no worries but all the same. It is more on the hyatt regency/hyatt as apposed to a grand property.

I was there about two weeks ago and didn't see any signs of renovations ongoing but I was only there for 1 night.
