Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

A suite gets you club access, but as a Diamond you would have that anyway.
You won't get access to the buffet in the restaurant on the ground floor. But the club is nice though, even for breakfast.

If you booked a breakfast inclusive rate you would have access to the main buffet. Lounge breakfast is very good though.

Club concierge might allow you to have breakfast at the main buffet or in room as a special request, YMMV.

Suggest either:

1.) Hyatt private car transfer (~$90)
2.) AOT private car which you can setup at the airport (~$50? I am not positive)
3.) Local taxi ($20)

Never tried the BTS. Was always told it is slower. Anyways, I am usually arriving and departing at off hours when I am guessing it isn't running (4am).
USD 20 for a local taxi from Suvarnabhumi? It's a bit high. You can get away with it for THB 400/USD 12 including toll fee. Heck, if you go up to departure level and catch a taxi that's dropping off passengers, you'll save the THB 50 fee.

The AOT private car, depends on which one you get. If you get the SUV, it's THB 950 or around USD 32.

Airport Rail Link is a joke now. The Express service starts around 10 am from the city to the airport.

Good luck getting a taxi from the departure floor these days. Neigh impossible.

Further, for double the cost and an 8 minute savings, why would anyone bother with the express? Oh, and I don't think it's working these days anyway.

The breakfast at the lounge is awesome!

In addition to eggs to order and a buffet spread, there is also an Asian spread/hot station for noodles, fried rice, and other dishes. Here is a sample of my breakfast dish!

I got a taxi from the departure level the first week of September. Maybe I was just lucky, but it took less than a minute. I think I'd rather just go the official taxi route next time if not taking the local train, which I prefer if my hotel is right off of a BTS stop.

Though I'm a price sensitive shopper, I am happy to pay a whopping $1.50 more for an empty train and nicer seats. I don't do it to save time. I do it bc where else can you sit in first class for only a $1.50 more?

It's really empty these days. Problem is it doesn't even run.

First class? It might be slightly more comfortable... but first class?

It is a great deal if you are traveling solo and light on the luggage

Thinking/debating about staying here for 1-3 nights on an award stay, as a Plat.
Other possible option(s) are Marriott properties JW/REN/S57 as a gold
I know this is the GP thread but anyone care to chime in?

Lounge access(I'm a cheap un) and location are probably key

If cheap is the key, the Renaissance lounge gives you 4 hours of free drinks, while the Hyatt only a mere 2 hours. The Hyatt is a touch more refined with better design, but I find service at the Renaissance to be warmer and a bit more genuine. While close to each other, the Hyatt has better access to the Silom BTS line, while the Renaissance has better access to the Suk BTS line. The Renaissance will likely give elites a larger room, studio suite, but, again, the Hyatt rooms are more tastefully decorated. The Hyatt pool area is outside and far superior. The S57 staff is great, and the place feels very new. The rooms are fairly small, and the evening lounge food offerings are rather limited compared to the other places. I'd choose the Renaissance for the room and lounge if Marriott gold and not a Hyatt diamond.

Both hotels bookend BTS Chit Lom to the south with the Hyatt having direct access to the walkway level (through the mall).

Your statement is not founded in fact.

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. I've only exited the Hyatt via the main entrance and used the sidewalk.

GHE has a direct access to the skywalk through the Wrawan Mall which is attached to the hotel through the restaurants and pubs located on the ground level under the hotels main lobby:

From hotel lobby, go downstairs

passing by pubs such @494

through the mall to second floor which has a direct access

to the sky walk
