Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Just landed in BKK this morning at 6:30 am from Paris. Booked a hotel car, and was to the hotel in 30-45 minutes. No traffic anywhere, and the car was able to pass through the blockade without any issue.

I haven't been out yet, as i am a little tired but so far apart from hearing the people in the street it seems allright and really not as bad as depicted in the newspaper / tv.

and yes to confirm RTW1, the hotel feels deserted. When I asked about occupancy this morning was told 50% but I would think it's much much lower than that...

Thanks for the update. Please keep us posted.

I just left the hotel and took the hotel's advice to take the skytrain as I only had a small bag with me. The BTS was running normally from Chit Lom station, although it was slightly more crowded than usual. Central World, Siam Paragon and the rest have all prepared sandbags and barricades, but don't think they've been put to use yet. There's definitely some tension in the air.

At checkout, the front desk told me occupancy was about 40 percent. It does feel a lot lower than that, with the entire restaurant almost empty at breakfast save for 3 or 4 other tables. However, the club lounge was crowded at happy hour last night, with the lovely club attendants saying they are averaging about 160 guests a night.

I remember breakfast and happy hour used to be really empty when the lounge was still located at the Tables restaurant, but it seems everyone has since returned. I'll try to post some pictures of the lounge later.

You can hear the whistling and noise from the pool very clearly, so I think those sensitive to noise should ask for a room that faces the direction of Amarin Plaza/Renaissance hotel instead of the Ratchaprasong junction.

A lot less of the protesters at Central World today it seems. I was afraid that the noise would be an issue as well.... But it stopped around 22:00 so even with a room facing the front the outside noise wasn't an issue.

Maxing benefits for new Diamond member

The corporate travel agent that arranged upcoming travel for me and several associates has booked us at this hotel for a club level room at an outrageous rate of 10,000 baht per night.

Since I am now a Diamond member and have access to the lounge, is there any benefit to actually having a room on the club floor? The sponsor has agreed to pay any rate up to a maximum of 10,000 baht per night so I'm looking at perhaps changing my booking to one of the package deals - they range everywhere from including American Breakfast/full breakfast in the dining room/restaurant, sparking wine and chocolates, dinner in the restaurant, credit towards spa treatments, dinner boat tour/etc.

Any advice/suggestions is appreciated.

Aside from the convenience of being on the club floor rather than just club access, no benefit. 10,000 per night is absolutely outrageous for this property, I'd change to one of the packages.

Thanks Peter. After proactively reaching out to the hotel, they've just lowered my rate by 3800 baht per night and upgraded to a suite. I'm happy - although I was excited about some of the extras included in the packages.

If you still can, add breakfast package. They have a very nice spread

I agree. Breakfast in ground floor restaurant is much more extensive than in the club lounge.

FYI, it took me 30 minutes at 6am to get from the hotel to BKK (was in the spa by 7!) on Jan 15.

You should still be able to upgrade to a higher rate and preserve the complimentary suite upgrade they have confirmed. Maybe you could even negotiate a THB 10,000 rate inclusive of a daily credit of THB 3,800 for incidentals in addition to the suite upgrade.

It would be a shame to leave that cash on the table if your employer/client is willing to pay THB 10,000 for room rate.

Any SUGGESTIONS WELCOME

We are scheduled to be at the ERAWAN Feb 14 and wondering about canceling. We would appreciate any updates regarding the current protests /unrest from FT'ers who may be there now and up to our dates.
Thank you,
