Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Reaching New Heights

Since opening in 1991, Grand Hyatt has had the honour of serving business leaders, dignitaries and discerning leisure travellers from around the world. We are proud that the hotel has earned a reputation for excellent facilities and warm and gracious service. In keeping with the ever-changing needs and lifestyles of the present day global traveller, Grand Hyatt is about to embark on a major multi-dimensional project that will transform its fifth floor into a one-of-a-kind facility dedicated to fitness, pampering, relaxation and accommodation. In our dedicated pursuit of offering our guests the unexpected, these new facilities promise to be unmatched in the city!

Master planned and designed by the renowned American interior designer, Tony Chi; the 7,000 square metre space will include private residential villas, a stylish Thai restaurant, a beautifully appointed spa, with health and fitness studios, a swimming pool, landscaped gardens and much more ... This major project will commence on July 19, 2004 and is expected to be complete by February 2005. Having renovated all guest rooms two years ago, the hotel's project teams are very experienced and cautious about balancing the needs of our guests with the demands of the construction. Our top priority will be to ensure that any potential disturbance will be kept to minimum.

Until the Grand Opening of the new facilities on the fifth floor, a fully equipped gymnasium and treatment rooms will be temporarily established on the hotel's sixth floor while in-room massage will continue to be available. For guests wishing to swim, provisions will be made to use a swimming pool nearby. Tony's creative contribution will not be limited to the fifth floor. The hotel will also build a luxurious 1,250 square metre collection of grand apartments for meetings and gatherings requiring the highest level of personalised service and attention to detail. Known as "The Residence" scheduled to open on October 1, 2004, these grand apartments will be conveniently accessible via the hotel's mezzanine floor. Also, as part of the development of the fashionable, new Erawan Bangkok Mall, the Grand Hyatt will open the "Erawan Tea Room" in November, 2004, a fantastic venue for dining throughout the day, overlooking the world renowned "Four-Faced Brahma God".

I just stayed here for two one night FFN stays. The staff was very courteous. I also received club access both times even though they were FFN stays. The hotel also waived the 3 night minimum for the second stay when I booked with them directly. It was also very lively and ofcourse the rennovations are still ongoing.

Grand Hyatt BKK

I also stayed at this property over the Dec. Holidays and found it to be holding nicely. Although the rates are on the high side, which I paid $145/night for a standard room, upgraded to Executive Suite with Diamond UG cert (I also hopped to stay at the Conrad for 2 nights at $98/night in an Executive Suite!!), the hotel continues to satisfy me.....

Anyway, this property continues to be the "meeting point" for the socially prominent in BKK. I guess part of the reason is because it's one of the oldest deluxe hotels in the Central district (the district the GH is in is either government offices or shopping centers and hotels). There's always dignitaries and officials as well as tycoons hosting receptions and parties at the GH, as well it's a favorite place for "Tai Tai's" to lunch.... which is among the reason why the GH is continually able to charge a higher than market price for its product.

That said, I'll definitely use both hotels (Conrad and Hyatt) whenever I'm in BKK.....

The Erawan shopping mall next door to the hotel is complete and open! It's very nice and upscale. (Not all stores are occupied yet.) There're several cafes and restaurants in the basement. Best feature is a direct link to the overpass leading to the Chid Lom skytrain station. It's now possible to go from the hotel to the skytrain without stepping out onto the street.

The gym, spa and pool are still under construction. The temporary gym is small but adequate for a run and a limited work out with weights. They can arrange for access to the pool at a few hotels nearby, but you need to ask the concierge to book the time and get a voucher.

Has anyone been getting a Diamond welcome amenity? On my last stay in December they copied the terms and conditions from my Diamond booklet concerning the Diamond welcome gift. They returned the booklet to me, but didn't give me an amenity.

Did you have any fruit in your room? I have been told at this property that the fruit is the ammenity, but I suspect every RC room has fruit.

Hi divaof travel,

Yes, I think there is usually fruit in the room, but I can't remember for sure. If there was, it was just a couple of items. I've never stayed on the RC floor but have almost always been checked-in there.

Twice, when I was checked in downstairs and asked for a diamond amenity, they gave me a key chain, which was nice.

Yes, fruit is always a good excuse for an amenity. The GH SIN gives everyone two apples. I didn't get a diamond amenity recently at the HR Johur Bahru.

Erawan has provided me with cookies and Thai confectionaries beside fruits but not always.

I thought GH Singapore's standard Diamond amenity was a box of chocolate, besides fruits.

Right, the GH Singapore provides the box of chocolates to Diamonds (usually). In addition I think they provide two apples to everyone. So, if they wanted to, they could claim the two apples constitute the Diamond amenity, when really they don't. A number of hotels do this.

Couple of comments on a stay here last weekend:

As usual, I was upgraded to GC-- I've never not been upgraded here.

No amenity in the room when I checked in, but when I asked they brought me a bowl of fruits (lots of them...) and of chocolates. Very nice...

I mentioned in passing on my first evening that I was vegetarian and the choices in the club were limited, so the next day, they made special hot items JUST FOR ME both for breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres. I got a call from the head of F&B making sure that I was happy with what they had prepared and to let them know if I had any specific requests! Also, they promised that my dietary restrictions are now in my profile and special items will be provided at the GC for all my future stays.

To me, staying at this hotel truly feels like staying with friends-- this is why I'll happily pay the slight premium here whenever I come to BKK.

On the renovations front, spa is supposed to be completed by May; not sure what would need to be done in the lobby--looks pretty ok to me.

Staying here at the moment. Was upgrade to GC without even asking. As for the ammenity,I asked this morning, and was told that the turndown service was an ammenity.I already had 2 apples in my room,I thought to myself, and asked for a key-chain (I got one once before) "Tonight" she replied. All in all,the staff is great, and RC makes this place for me..As for the remodel, suppose to be finished mid-July.

I stayed here last weekend on a FFN award as a Plat and they gave me the keychain at checkin, saying that it was a welcome amenity for my second stay there. Not bad, considering that my previous stay was also a FFN award.

Now, now... be nice. That was probably a relatively green staffer who said something like that-- my sense is that most of the senior staff at this hotel would be appalled to hear that someone suggested that the turndown service was an amenity!

There is a big difference at this hotel between the people who work at the front desk-- not always the most knowledgeable or friendly and sometimes downright useless. The Grand Club girls, on the other hand... some of the best around!

Tinkybelle,

I think you should ask for a key ring! I've gotten a couple and I like them.

I think they have a suite on every floor. I was able to ug to a suite using points once, I think.

They sure are cheap about the Diamond amenity. I guess we just have to drink extra wine in the lounge to make up for it.
