Airport Transportation

The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.

Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.

For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.

AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).

I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).

UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.

Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Grand Hyatt Bangkok Spa Cottage upgrade

Hello everyone.
I saw a review of a blogger from BoardingArea from 2017.
He had a Globalist status that means you will get a room upgrade up to standard suite, but, when he arrived at GH Bangkok, he got an upgrade to the Cottage! Is it because he was a Globalist a lot of time, because he is staying at the hotel some nights in a year or it was a mistake?

I've been going to this hotel for the past 7 - 8 years now and have never received an upgrade to the spa cottages. I've had colleagues who've been able to get them on a 1 or 2 night stay but rarely longer. I've never gotten higher than a premier suite which is still quite nice. They only have a handful of these cottages and lots of globalists staying so hard to secure one.

Stay somewhere else. Spasso is a brothel. Loud music and freelancers are all you'll find there. I tried getting some work done here… not at all appropriate.

It's pretty easy to avoid Spasso and still have an enjoyable stay at the GHE.

Spasso is not an appropriate place to work and US working hours will be the middle of the night in Thailand anyway. There's several other bars and lounges at the GHE, but still .. US working hours will pretty much be the middle of the night, very early morning in Bangkok anyway.

Yeah, you don't ever have to go down to that part of the basement. Seems an odd reason to cross a property off the list.

I wake up around 4 am to make west coast calls. This is where the suite comes in handy.

It is strange how Spasso has generated so much in the way of polarizing opinions and conviction. I last stayed at the Grand Hyatt Erawan earlier this month. At most times, Spasso was so empty, one would be lucky to find 3 people at the bar. This also matches my recollection of Spasso from the past few years. For people expecting an exciting establishment occasionally containing female customers with professional motives, it is best to look elsewhere in BKK. There are better places for that. One expecting Spasso to be a happening nighttime venue would likely be disappointed. 10 years ago, Spasso was more lively.

Regardless of the differing opinion which Spasso is seemingly generating, the Grand Hyatt Erawan can still deliver a thoroughly enjoyable stay. I wouldn't rate the Grand Hyatt Erawan as my fav hotel in BKK, however I have chosen to stay there to make use of the WoH benefits. It remains a solid option, and my first choice amongst Hyatts in BKK. Park Hyatt is also nice, but does not provide enough extra value for the premium price.

Spasso does seem to polarize opinion. I actually like it, but have no idea why someone would try to do work from Spasso.

My favorites are InterContinental and Anantara Siam, but GHE and StR are very nice. All have entry level suites that are affordable either through upgrades or paid upsell. It is much nicer to have a workspace in a separate room from bedroom.

Staying here in less than a month and I have some questions. Does anyone that has traveled here use TMobile? Reason is I want to use grab and TMobile has international 2g service. I have used it in other countries and it was enough for Uber but didn't know about Thailand and grab.

Get yourself a local SIM card for 4G. You won't be enjoying using the free 2G T-Mobile service.

I have a local sim, but t-mobile works ok in Bangkok if that's all you're going to use it for.

Grab itself though can be a pain in the ... when attempting to add a US based credit card. They make you jump through some hoops. But IIRC, there's a pay in cash option.

TMo 2g isn't great but is good enough to load maps (slowly) and order grabs etc. You'll be fine.

These might not be available for every plan, but T-Mobile's started offering some new one-time international passes. The cheapest is $5 (24 hours of up to 512MB of 4G data). Other current options include a $35 pass (10 days / 5gb) and a $50 pass (30 days / 15gb). Might be a good consideration.

I've stayed at The GHE at least 7-8 times over the last 3 years, and I've been able to get the cottage suite about 4 times. They put a remark on my account to say that I enjoy the cottage, so they try to book it for me. The person checking me in said that many people don't like getting upgraded into the cottage, so they typically just upgrade people into a suite.
