Despite the change of official policy a couple of years ago, Hyatt still seems to accommodate Diamonds on the club floor internationally in almost every case. That's a good record, and is significantly better than Hilton now. It seems MUCH better than Intercontinental, where so-called Royal Ambassadors are generally denied club access internationally and even in the U.S. Their recompense is they get free drinks from the minibar, a junior suite upgrade, and early check-in, but that hardly compares with access to a club outside North America IMHO.

The SIN GH does grant access to the RC for Diamonds paying to stay - this is a consistent practice, including my current stay.

On award, I do not know. I hear from my staff that they put award redemption guests in the back tower, where the rooms are not as nice. I do not know if the back tower has a RC.

Getting the proper awards and points on a paid stay at this location is never straightforward.

On a paid stay in June, I was given room in the back tower. The newly renovated rooms are quite nice! 4 fixture bathroom, supremely comfortable bed and oversized corner desk with a view of the pool. I was also given club access without asking.

On an award stay before that, I was given a room in the front tower (suite).

Yes, diamonds get lounge access on an award stay.

Yes, there is a lounge in the back tower. The lounge is about a year old.

I prefer the front tower though.

Grand Hyatt Singapore is undergoing some other renovation, and there can be quite a bit of noise and discomfort. Also, the building besides it has been torn down, and construction has also begun.

Just checked in; had to pay $90S (per night) to stay in the front tower on a FFN stay. It's only the second time in about 20 stays that I had to pay extra to stay in the front tower. I am not a happy camper.

Free wi-fi in the lounge though. And I got my Mezz9 chocolate (Diamond amenity) w/o having to ask for it.

I have some FFNs to burn and thought of going back to Sing.

I havent been there for quite a few years but was always given a nice mini suite.
I see mixed upgrade reports. When i was there I remember the rooms (sort of mini suites with a large lounge area and sometimes an actual 2nd room) being very similar. I see you are all saying the back tower isnt terribly fab and the front is better.
should I enquire as to which tower I am in when checking in and ask for the other ??

also should i check in early like 3 pm(meaning that i shuld stay at another hotel the night before so i can check in a t a reasonable time)
im starting to wonder if I should go to BKK instead.

I think the front tower is nice, but if you get the suite upgrade it will be really nice.

There is quite a bit of construction in the vicinity of Hyatt at the moment, and nothing really exciting in and around Orchard Road until probably after 2009.

St Regis is opening soon, and Formula 1 will come next year, after that 2 big casinos will open around 2009.

You probably should be thinking of BKK, or maybe even Park Hyatt Saigon for something different.

Got into SIN late Thursday evening from PVG-HKG, and checked into the SIN GH. This place really takes the cake with the attitude.

1. I got up to the room, and found that it had two doubles instead of one big bed. Went down and asked for a new room, with the type of bed I reserved. Told it would be no problem, and given a new sheet to sign - extra S$90 per night. Pointed this out. Engaged in a ten-minute discussion. Finally got the room I reserved at the rate I reserved.

2. Decided to use the room's speaker jacks to play a book on tape from my iPod. Ransacked the room looking for the mini-cable, actually found zero cables of any sort. Called the front, talked to at least three different people who all assured me that guests should bring their own cabling. Ridiculous position - are the jacks in the room just to tease the guests?

3. Received a call in the room from the hotel at sometime after 10PM, asking what it was I wanted. Since I had been in a jet-lagged sleep for at least an hour, I did not connect this with my 12-hours-earlier quest for cables. Finally figured it out, and was then told (again) that if I wanted to use the room's features, I should bring my own cables. Thank you for the tip.

4. Asked the concierge where I could have a passport photo taken this morning after coming back from my run up and down Orchard Road. Told that the hotel did not take passport photos. No kidding! I clarified that I would like to know where I could find a place that DID take photos. After three or four minutes, I realized I was losing IQ points just by participating in this discussion, so I went up and showered.

What a frustrating hotel. It is easy to book and easy to use because of the location, but the "no can do" attitude really gets me going. It is not like I am asking for a champagne bubble bath, either, but the armies of staff seem only capable of making the brown uniform look sharp rather than providing any actual customer service. Booked into the Sherton up the road for the rest of my trip. I know they have cables, at any rate.

Oh I was there on my way to CMB from BKK last month I believe (time goes very fast). I got one of those mini suites that I have always received at this property.

I don't have a clue what they had originally received for me but I just chatted for a while with the front office lady about the Backstreet Boys who were staying there last time I visited the hotel. She also mentioned that I have LOTS of GP points in my account. (I probably had a Krug poisoning by the time I arrived the hotel so it is a bit fuzzy....)

There are plenty of places to eat at Far East Plaza next to the hotel. The underground food court on the other side of the GH from Far East Plaza is closed bc of the new building construction.

Sorry, I don't know how Plats are treated here.

Diamonds have always been given lounge access on an award or paid stay. The issue has been whether you can talk the check-in agent to give you a room in the front tower which is all suites. Now that the back tower is completely renovated, there is a club lounge there, and there is a new rooms manager, it is very difficult to get the front tower unless you pay $90 per night for it. So, I've given up trying. The front tower rooms are "Grand Deluxe" rooms. The back tower rooms are just "Grand."

Yes, the staff is well trained in how to say no. Haha, I'm used to it and even talk to the staff about it. They deny it, of course. n

Good luck.
