Has all the rooms been renovated now? Several months ago (give or take a couple) I stayed in a suite and it was NOT renovated. It was truly awful and dingy. Wonder if they are by now?
Also, how is their breakfast buffet?

Just spoked to Taipei hyatt agent about the renovation. She said it hasnt been renovated in 10 years BUT there two types "traditional style" which are located below the 14th floor and "modern style" which are above 14th floor. She went on saying, some guests find the "modern style" newer than the traditional style. No idea what this means but guess that answers my question.
It is still old and the rooms has not been renovated for 100 years.
That explains why this thread, practically dead and no one ever posts here.
I dont think i will be staying here with old unnenovated hotel. Very unfortunate as I have new diamond and was looking foward to checking out the regency club and possible room upgrade.

The rooms actually look pretty good for their age so I wouldn't let it put you off staying here. I stay a couple of times a year and always enjoy the club rooms.
Decent size club lounge - breakfast and cocktails both have good food. Only downside is happy hour finishes quite early (8pm I think).
Rooms are a decent size and look like most Hyatt's and always clean.
Staff are friendly and helpful, one even went looking for a Taiwanese flag for me for a meeting I was going too.

As described above, the hotel is a bit outdated, but its fine in my opinion. I've always had decent stays there. Its not the same wow that I am used to in most other Asia Hyatt's, but its fine.
Personally, I think the Westin is a nice/newer hotel, but the Hyatt is in a better location typically for me when in TPE and i've always had reliable stays there.

The grand rooms are the ones that are not rennovated, hence, dated.Rooms higher than 14th floor are newer and pretty acceptable IMHO. Yes, it doesn't have the wow factor as compared to other Asian properties but their service is good and location can't be beat.
As for the Diamond amenities, club access and free internet is garaunteed, not sure about upgrades but we met a couple with diamond status in the elevator while on our way to our club room a fortnight ago and apparently, they were upgraded from basic room type to a suite on the 25th floor ,which happens to house the newer suites.( yeah, in this hotel, not all suites are equal).
As for a previous post about the confusion of where to have breakfast, I think it is because they have a different promo for AMEX local versus foreign cards. As a standard amenity that comes with rate booked via the AMEX Platinum, one is entitled to 2 Continental breakfasts in-room, while for certain years (not this year though), there is a promo for Taiwan based AMEX plat that entitles a person to two full breakfast in their CAFE at lobby level.Hence, the mix-up.

Definition of Award Room
I was just on the phone to try to book an award here, and the agent claimed they have no standard award rooms available ever. After looking at their room types, I thought "grand" rooms are the standard. Did I just run into an agent who didn't know what they were doing?

It was built atop the former Japanese prison camp, which is why the Taiwanese folks view it as something with a "ghostly quotient". There are paintings in the lobby, beside the elevators, which are intended to take the curse off it.
