On the Master, No points

I often stay in a Hyatt and other chains with a group. I'm on th eMaster bill. Is there any way to get points for stays like this?

No. However; our events person usually sends out an email notifying all participants of this. Also, if you're not spending your own $ and it's a large group where they pay for everything why do you think you would/should you get points/credit?

Not sure why you have turned this into an entitlement thread...

I'll bite and play devils advocate. It's a good bet that someone is getting points for this. Either the event planner or the person who's credit card it's on. Why would they be more deserving? Yes they did organize the event but if it's a full time planner than that's their job to do so.

For arguments sake let's say they didn't even attend the event. Well the OP had to put in time away from home, etc. So why should they not get the points when they travel like they do for other work functions? I'm just sayin'. An arguement (I'll let you decide if it's compelling) could be made either way.

There was a thread here a month or so back, which I can't find at the moment, about this. You can get stay credits if you charge something to your room. Get a soda, charge it to your room, and pay with your credit card. Then you'll have a folio and a stay.

That may occasionally work due to mistakes in posting but you should not count on that - it's the same idea for award stays / priceline / hotwire / other non-qualifying stay rates.

In such cases I have not gotten the points or stay credits, but I have gotten the Diamond perks on-site when I was not on our group's VIP list.

You can get points for items charged to a separate folio off the master. For instance: long distance, room service, pay-per-vew. The points, if any, for the master billing are a matter between the property and the event planner. In some instances, the planner may have negotiated a lower rate in return for no points. In others, the event planner may receive the points and yet in others, the points may wind up with someone more senior at your company who retains the event planner.

If you really want to know - ask the event planner and move up the chain from there.

Our event meetings & travel "director" never went anywhere interesting on vacation. In fact, we never heard where she went. One of the best-kept secrets in our company. This was before most of us knew what the travel industry could do for people in her or her boss's positions. This was before awards programs became prevalent, raising our consciousness about suchlike. Then a few of us stealthily began to pay attention, watch and then report how often she steered our meetings to a certain chain, and travelers to certain airlines. . . Ironically, one purchasing manager was escorted out one day for his very similar cozy relationships, but she'd been around a long time in the position to do many favors for senior execs and board members. . . . .

I would imagine a large chunk of us, me included, aren't spending our own $$$ yet still would/should want to get points.

Leave the poor guy/gal alone. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I rarely travel for business anymore except twice a year. I would never think of getting points/stay credits when I'm not paying out of my own pocket. It's not an "entitlement" thing but I just wonder why somebody who isn't paying anything would think they would get points/stay credit. One of the reasons event planners have a master bill is to make it easier for the attendees. Nobody needs to worry about paying, getting reimbursed, etc. It also allows the event planner to see exactly what has been charged/paid in one place.

Are you saying that if you travel on business and your company pays that you shouldn't get credit for it?

I would hazard to guess that your travel patterns are not the norm on these forums which is perhaps why your somewhat condescending and empirical attitude rubs those of us that travel for work the wrong way.

The fact that you would "never think of getting points/stay credits when I'm not paying out of my own pocket" pretty much goes against my entire travel ideology.

Ok - this thread has gone off topic - whether or not a stay that is paid on a Master Bill will get points into whether or not stays / flights that are not personally paid should get points / miles along with some mild personal commentary.

Please return to the subject of the thread (which was already answered).

Thank you!!
