This version of the Hyatt card (with its 2 free nights offer) has been discontinued as of June 29, 2017.

There is a new version.

See this thread

What are the benefits of the card?
  • 3 points/dollar spent at Hyatt
  • 2 points per dollar spent at restaurants, airfare, car rental
  • 1 point for all other charges
  • No foreign exchange fee
  • Annually, on renewal, one free night at up to a category 4 hotel and is valid for 12 months
When will I receive the sign up bonus?
Typically a day or two after the close of the billing cycle in which you reach spend threshold.
When do the signup points from this card offer expire?
If you have no activity on your Hyatt account for 24 months your points will expire.
Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?
See the wiki and related discussion in Applying for Chase Credit Cards, 2017 onward.
It's a Chase Card. Does that mean that if I have more than 5 new open lines of credit in 24 months, I will be automatically denied?
This card is not currently under the 5 cards in 24 months Chase application restriction.
It looks like the Hyatt website will let me use my anniversary category 1-4 cert for any property, including those above category 4. Is this for real?
No. Even if the system accepts your attempted reservation, the property will not honor the cert at check-in. Accept the fact that your cat 4 cert is just that.
Can I use my anniversary category 1-4 cert at a higher-category property with a cash co-pay? By paying the difference in points? By asking nicely?
No. No. No.
Can I use my annual free night cert for a suite or Club-level room, possibly with a cash or point copay?
Officially, no. But there's no harm in contacting an individual property directly to see what they're willing to do.
If I close my card account, do I lose any unused points or annual free-night certificate?
No. Unused points already in your Hyatt account as well as the annual free-night award remain available in your Hyatt account regardless of the status of your Chase card.

Questions related to the (now expired) 2 Free Night card offer:

When do the signup bonus free-night awards for this card expire?
The awards expire one year from the date of deposit (typically the date on which the required spend is met, which may fall in the middle of a billing cycle). All stays must be completed by the expiration date.
When I view my free-night awards, why is the button to start the redemption/booking process missing?
You no longer need to go through the My Awards page to book a free-night cert. Simply start the booking process as if requesting an award stay using points.
When I try to book a multiple-night award stay, why does the Hyatt website show availability for points redemptions but not for Free Night Awards?
You will need to redeem the free-night certs one at a time in separate single-night reservations if you want to do it online. For example, if you want to book the Park Hyatt Sydney for December 14-16, you will book the night of the 14th to 15th as one stay, and then repeat the process for the night of the 15th to 16th. Otherwise, call Hyatt to make the booking.
If I can't use my free-night award by the expiration date, can I exchange it for points or get the expiration extended?
According to the FT Hyatt GP Concierge, as of January 22, 2016, there are 2 options for compensation for the initial (all-category) Free Night Awards:
  • Platinum guests: Hyatt offers 10,000 points per Award if the Member has had 5 eligible stays or 15 eligible nights in the previous 12 months. The 10,000 points per award exchange can only be done after the award night has expired. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which required the award to be unexpired.) Members have up to 90 days beyond the expiration of the unused award night to exchange for points.
  • Diamond guests: Hyatt offers 20,000 points per Award if the Member has achieved Diamond status by achieving 25 stays or 50 nights or completing a trial tier offer within the last 12 months. The 20,000 points per award exchange can only be done after the award night has expired. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which required the award to be unexpired.) Members have up to 90 days beyond the expiration of the unused award night to exchange for points.
These policies will reportedly remain in effect after the March 1, 2017 transition from Hyatt Gold Passport to the new World of Hyatt program.

Anniversary Awards valid in Category 1-4 hotels are not eligible for extension. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which allowed a one-time 30-day extension.)
Can I use the sign-up free night cert for a suite or Club-level room, possibly with a cash or point copay?
Officially, no. But there's no harm in contacting an individual property directly to see what they're willing to do.
If I close my card account, do I lose any unused free-night certificates?
No. Unused free-night awards remain available in your Hyatt account regardless of the status of your Chase card.

Finally,U can send some Sapphire points to Hyatt, BA, or CO as needed (also Marriott or Holiday Inn, but the rate is poor.)
The only advantages of the Hyatt Visa are the 3x earning on Hyatt spending, instant permanent Platinum status, & 2 suite upgrades on $--paid rooms if UR Pt already. But I'd wait till next year to get this card when/before Chase bills U the annual fee on your Sapphire.
I'm also trying to decide between the two cards and would like some advice. I plan to keep the card so annual fee does come into play.

I don't fly much (not affiliated with BA or CO) and my hotel travel is self-funded. I like the flexibility of Ultimate Rewards in that I can transfer points to Hyatt, get cash back and/or gift cards.

At some point, I know I will not be able to re-qualify for Diamond and I'll probably be staying at Hyatts only when the promotions are lucrative so having Platinum with the Hyatt Card is pretty nice. However, if there's a good promo, I'm sure I can re-qualify for Platinum regardless.

With everyday spending being equal between the two cards (and signup bonuses aside), my thought is that it all comes down to annual fee, which puts Hyatt at the top. Are there any other benefits that are worth the extra $20 in annual fees with the Sapphire Preferred?

If you have Chase Freedom card in addition to Sapphire Preferred, you can earn 5 UR points/$ on quarterly rotating categories, which can then be transferred to your Sapphire Preferred UR account, and to Hyatt points eventually.

For example, from 7/1-9/30, you can earn 5 Hyatt points/$ this way for up to $1500 spending on all hotels, airlines, gas using the Freedom card. Next quarter will be dining, department stores, etc.

Thanks. I do have a Freedom card and forgot all about being able to combine the points. I'll consider that too!

And also Sapphire Preferred card gives 7% APR bonus to all earned UR points each year. So even with no spending, the 50k signup bonus yields 50k*7%=3,500 UR points, which partly offset the difference of annual fees (in the first year at least)

Is the Platinum status truly permanent, or for just as long as you hold the card? I couldn't find anything in the terms either way.

It's for as long as you are a cardholder. If you don't plan on staying at Hyatt too much, the $75 annual fee is worth it, in my opinion.

Five stays is pretty easy to reach though, but it's nice not to have to worry about it if you don't have to.

Chase acknowledged today that they did in fact make an error on the Hyatt Card app and that they used incorrect information in the application. The Chase CSR told me that there is nothing that they could do for 90-120 days until their investigation is complete.

It baffles me that a bank can make a mistake, refuse credit, acknowledge the mistake and then tell you it will take 120 days to resolve. I have had Amex for 23 years and never had an issue with any dispute.

If I told my customers that it was going to take a 120 days to resolve an issue I would not have any.

Maybe we should have let the banks go out of business two years ago which might have caused havoc but at least it would have forced a system of checks and balances that is not shouldered by the American public and rather by the banks which is where it should be.

I am sorry that Hyatt chose to partner with Chase, wish that it had been Amex.

Sorry, BJ! I should not have written "permanent." I have edited my post. Pt status lasts as long as one is a cardmember or perhaps till February of the year following cancellation of the card.
I do agree with Kenbo that this is worth the $75 annual fee for someone who, like me, stays at Hyatts occasionally & mostly on award nights--so I don't have to struggle to have 5 money-paid stays a year.
Unlike Ggilmour, I have had positive experiences with Chase.

How long did it take most of you to receive your card? My wife and I both applied on June 30th, got instantly approved, and the card still hasn't shown up despite showing online. I'm pretty annoyed since I was hoping to use the 2 free nights for an upcoming trip later this month.

Call them up and see if they can expedite your card.

Are you sure the two nights aren't showing in your account?

The nights aren't deposited into the account until after the first purchase is made.

name matching?

Does anyone know if one signs up for the card and puts their spouse's gp number, if it will go through, and points/nights will go to that account, or does chase/Hyatt structure match the 2 up, and kick the number off? Anybody try this? (searched, but couldnt find anything here)

Chase and Hyatt match the GP account with the name on the application. I can't say with any certainty but my guess is that it will not work and the applicant would end up getting their own GP account.

It seems that now the Sapphire Preferred card will earn double (2 UR points) per dollar spend on dining, airlines, airports, car rental agencies (including truck, trailer, and RV), cruise ships, hotels and motels, timeshares, local and commuter transportation (including trains, buses, taxis/limos, ferries, bridges, tolls, and parking), travel agencies, and 3 UR points/$ on airfare and hotel purchases made online through the UR program booking tool.

So in terms of earning Hyatt points, Sapphire Preferred is superior to Chase Hyatt card in nearly every aspect.
