I'm looking for a thread on Florida resident discounts but can't find one. Can anyone tell if one exists? I'd like to follow and contribute to such a thread.

HotelClub.com ending

FYI. HotelClub will join Hotels.com on 15th February, 2016. You can continue to book via HotelClub as normal until this date. After 15th February, 2016, you will be able to make new bookings on Hotels.com

HotelClub had some of the best ever promo codes when they had $50 to $100 off per night codes. Paid for my entire stay in Miami Beach, New Orleans and Seattle at the time.

Unless Expedia offers tremendous promos, I don't really understand why anyone would book through them to begin with. It's almost always better to book direct with the hotel.

Lol, as always, YMMV. I almost never find where a hotel can come even close to the price I can get from an OTA using promo's and such. I cannot remember the last time I booked direct with a hotel, and I ALWAYS check with them.

If you have status with a hotel chain, it's best to book direct to get status benefits/points. If it's cheaper via OTA such as expedia, i would do a BRG.

For independent hotels, book wherever gives you a better rate.

If you have status with a hotel chain like Hilton, most of the time they have elite discounts of 15-20% on refundable fares with full benefits, so you have to book with them directly. There is no way an OTA can beat that rate.

And even if the ota rate is lower, you can always do a brg. Booking direct is the way to go.

Edit, the only time ota is good is when there're good promo codes e.g. $50 off $100 or ~40% codes where the savings are substantial and you can't do brg.

I still have to find a case where Expedia was cheaper than HotelClub for a booking I wanted. Either Canada or APAC, HC was always offering better rates. The promos were real, not the "20% off" that simply put you back to the regular price, but real additional savings.

I had some great BRGs between Starwood and HC, less easy with Accor and HC.

So... probably I won't be moving my business to Hotels.com.

Who runs a different systems (from ex-Orbitz or Expedia) that Singapore credit cards can be leveraged on now?

Zuji, Agoda, else?

Just 2 weeks ago I booked a Hilton room for €169, found the same room for €119 an my BRG was approved making the rate €72... still got all my benefits as I booked directly with Hilton.

Okay time to ask what the hell is BRG? I've seen this lingo a half dozen times now.
