The Friends and Family rate is intended to be offered to travellers who are "friend and family members" of a Carlson employee. That could be a hotel employee, a travel agent (Carlson Wagonlit) or restaurant employee (TGIF) (TGIF sold to Sentinel Capital Partners as of July 2014).

When you book the rate, you are supposed to have the basic data on your friend available at check-in for the hotel to verify that you are indeed authorized to use that rate. Generally, if they ask, they ask for:
1) Employee Name
2) Work location

Please consider that, as per T&C, only employee name and location can be requested only at the check in time.

The new code is RHGRFNF
NOTE:
Booking a rate that you're not entitled to book may result in rate adjustments and Club Carlson account freezing.

In general, the rate is €80 per night in Europe.

*These stays post as "Ineligible" - non-qualifying, non-stay, non-points earning ... so, in sum, don't associate a F&F reservation with your Gold Points account, unless elite perks you hope to enjoy are worth the risk.

Slightly off topic - but dont be surprised if you are charged a currency conversion fee regardless. Most credit card companies charge the "conversion fee" for all international transactions, regardless of the currency or if any true conversion took place. I know Citibank does it, and a few other credit card companies followed suit.

Ive stayed at the Radisson Blu Plaza in Oslo at least 4 times over the past year and have never been asked anything.... except the last time. I was asked for name, address, and where person worked!

I had a name to give out anyway...

But just be diligent, that's all.

Could someone kindly PM me a Carlson's employee's name & work location?

I had emailed the hotel to confirm my reservation and they are now asking in the email the employee's name and work location. Any help would be much appreciated!

Why have you e-mailed the hotel? didn't you have confirmation after booking online?
This is the way to kill the deal for us all.
So , if i were you i would not put my hopes high on getting assistance here ...

Sorry for OT and rant ...

I've noticed some people saying hotels were asking for addresses and phone numbers. However, doesn't the rate say just name and work location? I was very kindly given a name/work location by a Carlson employee but I certainly do not have an address or phone number -- and to my understanding, one should not be required!

Had four nights at the Radisson Blu Bosphorus in Istanbul last week. No recognition of hubby's gold status, nor of my big birthday as mentioned in the booking - but then none was expected (although it would have been nice!). The original room we were shown was quite small and dark, with the window close to the adjacent building, so we upgraded (for €50 per night) to a larger room with a view of the Bosphorus. Much nicer and worth the extra. Breakfast was included, much to my surprise, and very nice it was too. Without exception, the staff were lovely.

The hotel is in Ortakoy, which was nice enough, but a fair way from the centre of Istanbul. It's supposed to be trendy, couldn't see why though! Traffic between the centre and Ortakoy was pretty dreadful and if you wanted to use public transport, it was bus then tram. The bargain rates more than outweighed this slight inconvenience though.

I hope this doesn't come across as negative, we had a very enjoyable weekend and would be happy to return.

So, to be specific, they added the €50 to the F & F rate? Thank you.

(And, btw, I've always thought you were a guy.)

Not when I last looked

And I should have mentioned that I was not asked for any information about my Carlson friend.

Please stop asking for names of Carlson employees!! Nobody is going to give you names and details; what are u expecting?

Do your own search in this thread or don't book this rate.

(AND as stated above DONT call/write the hotel for confirmation of the rate/stay etc - how folish can u be...)
