I think the quarantine rules are too strict to make this work as it affects the pilots and flight crew in HK. I suspect it would have been similar in Australia.

Perhaps but honestly, the direction of people I know and family in Hong Kong is OUT not IN. Ffs. Hong Kong is gone. As sad as that is to say.

I saw some University of HK professor interviewed on CNN.

They are aiming to get 90% of the population vaccinated by April and 70% boosted by May.

Then they'd open up to China and the world in June or so.

Vaccination rate of elderly HK is only 20%.

So they're planning to require vaccine passports for things like going to restaurants and entertainment venues.

Boosters will be Pfizer or Sinopharm.

Was it today? I had CNN on the whole morning and don't remember seeing that segment.

It was on CNN, I don't have CNNI.

But it was probably CNNI content.

It was on around midnight PST.

Interesting because CNN usually doesn't have HK based anchor on. I've seen some of its London-based anchors on in the very early morning hours.

https://www.cnn.com/profiles/anna-coren-2021

So I was just at my parents' house, and the DVR managed to record what you were talking about. The segment was broadcast between 12:10-12:15 AM PST. The anchor was Anna Coren, and she is based in Hong Kong. I was really surprised to her on CNN Newsroom as she is usually on CNN International. I saw her on CNNI a lot whenever I have that channel on, say Hong Kong, for example. I watched the roughly 5-minute segment and can confirm what you had described is correct, but it is indeed an if. The professor's name is Dr. Ivan Hung from the University of Hong Kong. Basically, HK will open up not just to the Mainland, but to the rest of the world if vaccination rates reach the level that you have stated. Short of issuing vaccine mandates and using other government powers to get people vaccinated, I'm doubtful they'll get to those figures by the middle of 2022. Shockingly, roughly 20% of elderlies in HK are vaccinated. Anyways, it's a very interesting segment, and I prefer CNN International as it has a more international focus. I'm not as excited about the same old domestic issues as Trump's attempted coup.

How does all of this go along with zero covid? Do they seem to realize that zero covid is not happening?

I think our mindsets are just different.

As in their mindset vs ours.

I just think the HK government is worried, given HK is one of the densest cities in the world, that COVID will spread like wildfire.
