Calling an agent is not that much trouble, because I have to call them anyway to put the reservation on my friends' names. But I don't want to fuss over $10k of points to explain to the agent and the hotel and to my friends as to why there are 2 reservations on consecutive days. It just creates too much trouble for my friends. VIP for 8 days is 300k, and 2 x AXON is 290k.

I feel like if I give them a gift vacation in 2 reservations that they have to deal with, it would be like giving them a gift but in parts. They have to take the parts back to the shop and put it together because I was too cheap pay a little more for the whole thing.
Multiple AXON certificates can be linked in one reservation. As long as it's in 4-day increments, you can do it. 4-day, 8-day, 12-day, 16-day ... Doesn't require multiple reservations or checking in/out. Your friends don't even have to know the nature of your redemption.

I did it once when I first got my original Amex HH card (the free version), and at the time the HH guy told me that I have to call the hotel to link them. And when I call the hotel, they said they will take care of it when I check in. And when I checked in, they still thought I had a 4 nights stay, so I have to ask them to link them. I guess now you could link them on the phone. Good to know, but I will only have AXON for another month before I cancel my Surpass card. Maybe I will re-apply for the free Amex HH card sometime in the future.

I thought the VIP awards (GLON) were history ? If not an 8 night VIP is 80K points LESS than an AXON 7 for 8 nights starting June 15

I have been linking back to back Axon's ( 8 nights) and ever had an issue

A question for the folks...
If I make an Axon booking for a cat 7 property before June 15th for 2014 and later I have to switch some dates around, will the number of points fluctuate?

Axon cat 7 jumps from 145K to 190K?

Yes, you'll need 45K more points

That's not a problem. I need to do 8-10 reservations next year on my AA Explorer award. I have like 450K points and wanted to reserve some properties at the old Axon level.

Has anyone tried contacting the hotel directly to switch dates of an AXON award booking around?

Just wondering if they might be willing to do it without requiring add'l points.

Axon question

It looks as if Ihave 8 days to get category 6 for 125000 points. Any ideas? Where have you all booked?

If I didn't log on to flyertalk yesterday I wouldn't know about the June 15 deadline. I have 140000points remaining. I think I am limited to category 6, right?

I burned up most of my points before at the earlier deadline. Booked London Park Lane and Doubletree Times Square.
I'll find something I hope. Any suggestions for a hotel in the states?

I have stayed at some wonderful Hiltons on points. Rome cavalieri before it was Waldorf, Sorrento, London Metropole, Barcelona, El San Juan, Cairo Hilton, Luxor Hilton Resort, Berlin Hilton, Hilton Hawaiian Village twice, and more.
I guess the good times with Hilton are over! Best to use points, whether hotel or airline as soon as you can.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Question AXON for Cat 9 and the correct direction to book…

Does anyone know if 260K (4 nights rate) for Cat 9 will remain at flat rate after June 15? Or will it be based on a season (high/low)?

I have an upcoming 5 days/4 nights trip to Paris in July and am planning to stay in Trianon Palace Versailles, a Waldorf Astoria (Cat 9) or at Hilton Paris La Defense (Cat 9).

Now I can book Hilton Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (Cat 6) using AXON for 125K for July stay, however I don’t relay like this hotel and want to know if you know whether AXON will not exclude Waldorf Astoria or Paris La Defense hotel? What is the chance that the reward room will be available if I call AXON on June 16 to make the booking for the third week of July?

Note: Current Palace Versailles, Waldorf Astoria is 126K per night, that is way too expensive to use points.

Here is on the another approach that I’m thinking about. Let me know if this would be right direction:
- Book right now Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (cat 6) for 125K AXON award
- Call AXON after Jun 15 and, if room is available, update it to CAT 9 in Astoria or La Defence

Thank you
