I have never stayed there, so I can't comment on the hotel.

But I lived in northern Sinai for two years, leaving about two years ago. During my time there I went to southern Sinai on a semi-regular basis, and usually stayed at my employer's facility in Sharm. But one time that wasn't an option, and they put us up in a nice hotel, at the cost of $28 per night. It wasn't right on the water, but it was was walking distance.

Man I wish I could remember the name, because I would definitely stay there again. It was undboutedly not as nice as the Hilton, but it was nicer than your average Hampton in the US (and included a restaurant). It was so cheap because they overbuilt Sharm; there are too many hotels there. It wasn't a chain, so you'd get no points. And while I am something of a point-freak and I do like Hilton, if I go back I'll probably try to find this or a similar hotel. tls

Mr GoodTimes and I have recently returned from the Hilton Sharks Bay resort in Sharm El Sheikh. Here's my review of the resort:

Check In
Excellent. Greeted with "we've been expecting you" which was a very nice touch. We were upgraded to a Family Deluxe Suite (one bedroom suite in the New part of the hotel overlooking the pool).
It took about 2 minutes to check us in. Our bag was loaded onto a golf cart and off we went.

Resort
Split into two. Old and New (Deluxe). Old has more character and is closer to the "beach". Rooms are smaller than the New side. New side is more contemporary.

Room/suite
Very nice indeed. Balcony overlooked the pool. Downstairs suites/rooms would have given us direct access to the pool. Bathroom had separate shower and bathtub, and twin wash basins.
Glass doors to the shower and loo clashed though (had to carefully open and close each one).
1 or 2 large bottles of water in room each day, with beers, Pepsi and 7Up left in the mini-fridges (one in the living area and one in the bedroom).

Restaurants
Ate mostly in the main restaurant on the new side which was ok. Staff were incredibly friendly. Chefs were a bit miserable - did not smile at all. Buffet restaurants in both sides of the hotel offer the same food.

Breakfast: Excellent selection of bread and pastries, usual beef sausages, beef bacon, egg/omelette/pancake station, cold meat/cheese station (did not try), hot Egyptian food (Om Ali was lovely...like bread pudding).
Lunch: Just ok. Usually had fish or calamari which was delicious, veg dish, pasta. Sometimes, there's hotdogs/burgers and chips. Salad station (did not try).
Dinner: Ok again. Meat was quite tough. Fish / calamari was fine. Themed in the evenings, but we found that the usual fayre kept creeping in. Salad station (did not try).

Il Rustico:
Have to book 2 days in advance. Would not recommend.

Sunset Bar:
Ciabattas / burgers for lunch. Ciabatta was not pleasant. Staff were not friendly.

Waves & Pool Bar on New side:
Just ok. Again, we did not find the staff very friendly.

Snorkelling
20 deposit for snorkelling mask. 20 deposit for flippers. Direct access to coral.

Spa/health club
Good selection of massages and facials in both spas (run by the same company). Prices were a bit steep but negotiable. A guy comes round the pool asking if you want a treatment. We got a 25% discount for 3 treatments.

Gym in both hotel. One type of equipment in each e.g. ecliptical, treadmill, bike etc with usual resistance equipment.

Transfers
Limo service for USD14 each way.

I stayed there 5-6 years ago and I really felt the same thing about most of the serving staff... they were not friendly and looked unhappy. I got the feeling they were working there because they felt they had no choice... and it showed. So I see nothing has changed. The hotel management needs to do something about that.

I have just returned from a 1 week stay here on a package booking and was pleasantly surprised and treated very well.

I had e-mailed the hotel before my arrival and received a prompt response advising that I would be upgraded to a suite. ^

Check In was quick and efficient - escorted to the Hilton Hhonours desk.

Upgraded to a Deluxe Suite (the size of two rooms - 9107 !) in the newer part of the hotel overlooking the pool and close to the restaurants). The newer side has started to become more established with the planting and grounds maturing. Slight bit of noise from the bars and restaurants but nothing too troublesome.

Suite had a lounge with sofa bed, desk, various chairs, wide screen TV and mini bar fridge and seperate AC unit. Large bedroom with another wide screen TV, Mini bar fridge and AC unit, bathroom with bath, walk in shower, WC and two wash basins. Loads of towels, towling bath robe, slippers etc. and all very clean. Wide balcony across both areas.

Every other day an in room amenity was provided of 2 large bottles of water, 2 cans of beer, 1 large bottle of Pepsi and another of 7Up and a bowl of fruit. Local newspaper delivered to room every day and towel art display which was a nice touch especially the monkey !

Free 1 week WiFi for Hilton Gold - nice touch. ^

The Resort is split in two - the Old has a bit more character and is closer to the "beach" but the rooms are smaller and they are still upgrading these from the top of the slope near the restaurant and bars downwards towards the beach end. I'd say they are about 60% of the way down.

There are five Restaurants, two of which are a buffet style and it is obviously difficult to keep food fresh and appealling but on the nights I ate here I found something to my liking.

Bedouin restaurant was ok as was the Italian, Il Rustico, although both lacked a little atmosphere. The Asian restaurant (which has an additional charge) was excellent.

There are 5 Bars and the bar staff were ok although it can get busy at times buta little Gold Hhonours bonus was that after 1-00 am drinks were still complimentary. ^

Diving

This was ok but the fish are being deterred by the noise of the building work next door and the frequency of motor boats towing a variety of ride on inflatables and as a result the coral is suffering.

The Dive Centre is run by Sinai Dive Club who are very friendly and reliable.

I was given a parting gift from the hotel of a papyrus which again was a nice touch. ^

I managed to get in a couple of long excursions to both Petra and Cairo and the hotel provided a breakfast box consisting of sandwiches, cake, juice, fruit and yoghurt, free of charge.

Complimentary late check out until 15-30 for Hhonours members made the last day very relaxing. ^

The only downside was the noise during the day by the beach from construction work on the adjacent site which the hotel can do nothing about. The furthest pool in the newer side is meant to be adults only but this was not enforced and placing families in the rooms at this end naturally leads to children and parents heading for the nearest pool which the hotel might want to reconsider.

All in all a very enjoyable stay and an example of what all Hilton hotels should aim to do for their frequent guests. I felt that I had truly been treated very well and that my loyalty to the Hilton brand had been recognised and rewarded. ^^

I would definitely return to this hotel if I were heading to Sharm in the future and am grateful to all of the staff for looking after me.

Smile Special Diamond Recognition

Stayed at Sharks Bay for a week on points (20 K a night) early December. HHonors gold and diamond get a gold wristband, which get's you better service from staff a free minibar refill most days (two beers, a coke and a sprite), sometimes a fruit basket.

They recognize special guest namely those have returned many times but also golds and diamonds at the weekly poolside BBQ arabian festival event. The manager asked me the day before, there were not many of us in the hotel; his list had 4 room numbers. I was given the choice being brought forward on a club cart or a camel. I choose the camel.

Was there any upgraded offering at this hotel... ie deluxe (which seems to be the 20KHHonors offer a night) to a suite?

Does B & B rate qualify for all inclusive

I have seen some very good promotional offers for this hotel for first week of November. As the resort is all inclusive what does this mean for those booking B & B.

Thanks

Dave.

Do you really want to be going to Egypt right now? Google some of the news stories and backgrounders on the killing last week of the Mexican tourists by Egyptian security forces. Not only total incompetence but more shocking a callous official disregard for what happened (ministries blaming each other and/or the tour guides etc.). When the government places no emphasis on tourist safety in a country like Egypt, this for me a big reason not to set foot there.

Hi, does anyone know if any of the Hiltons in Sharm El Sheikh (or Hurghada) have an executive lounge which Diamond members are allowed use of ?

Anyone got any newer experiences of Sharm Hiltons ?

Cheers,
J.

Found this on google, don't know if it is up-to date. All the 3rd party sites show different prices for room only vs all-inclusive. Hilton's own booking page dosen't?

Stayed there two consecutive years back in Dec. 04 and Dec 05. Paid less than $100 / night for a triple. I suspect that with all the issues in Sharm, prices have come way down. Overall resort was fabulous with a decent house reef. Food was good, service was good and friendly. Want to go back but won't go until things settle a bit.
