Explain how a 100,000 point gift as token of appreciation for requalifying is not 'most relevant' for all Diamond members?

Despite the fact that is about the only IHG has ever done?
True but most of the IHG promos every member received an offer basically at the same time. HHonors seems to be saying that if you didn't receive one this time you might receive one next time.

Aside from who gets it or doesn't get it - and I didn't get it, and I'm not getting it, I'm over that - what I don't understand is this: IF Hilton is going to do this and IF they are going to spend whatever capital it takes to do this (give 100k points to a bunch of people) then why would they do it under the radar and with no fanfare? I mean, isn't the point of giveaways to hype up the vast bunch of people who don't win and get them to sign on in hopes that they might too win? Isn't that how casinos and the lottery work?

So what I don't get is, why are they squandering what if any marketing/brand-building opportunity they have here? At the very least, a simple message would be "We just gave 100k points to X,XXX Hhonors members. Will YOU be next? Earn gold/diamond to find out!" At least something to translate this into some sort of market pull. But instead it's the marketing equivalent of just pulling people into a back alley and paying them off.

Registration Error (Nothing)

Been Diamond for years. Got nothing. Guess my loyalty to Hilton does not count for anything

This tailored approach will allow us to reward you with the most relevant offers based on your travel behaviors and needs, which will ultimately help you get to your next free night faster!

We value all of our members and while you may not have been targeted for this specific offer, stay tuned because we will have a variety of offers throughout the year that will be coming your way.

Cheers,
Erin

P.S. For those of you who would like me to check and ensure you’re enrolled in our promotional emails, please PM me any time!
Sorry, Erin. I have not been targeted in over a year! Why should I believe I will be targeted for a promotion anytime soon? I'm cancelling my Hilton reservations and moving them to SPG.

Signed,

A former Loyal Hilton Customer

Erin has been very responsive to me anytime I have reached out to her with a PM. I spend at least 175 nights a year at Hilton, been Diamond for over 13 years, and I didn't get the promo. I give Erin the benefit of the doubt when she says it's the first targeted offer.

I continue to be amazed about the way folks just complain as though it's your constitutional right to get maximum HHonors points. If you don't like it then go to Marriott or SPG or Hyatt.
Done. Moved my reservations to SPG.

Rock when I tried it. A gold who stays at Hilton only five times a year received an offer for 100K points and to get diamond status after only four stays.

Hilton must value the five time a year guest over someone that stays more times than that a month.

I totally agree with you on that. 100,000 points is a lot - even in a substantially devalued program like HH. Usually, giving away millions of points in 100,000 point chunks would be the making of a splashy marketing campaign.

It also would lead to less ill-will from those that didn't "win." Everyone doesn't expect to "win" a "giveaway" - but when it is instead marketed as a "gift" for "maintaining diamond status" everybody that has maintained diamond evidently feels entitled to the same gift.

I wish they would have done another promo like the QF3N and gave a certificate for every four stays or ten nights, or offered a 100K point bonus promo for spending x stays or nights in the first quarter. It would be a great way of rewarding their truly loyal customers and that would be a good enough promo to swing stays from SPG to Hilton for me.

Totally agree! Not a fan of targeted promotions, but could live with some members getting the 2x/3x promotion and others not, but why not give every on their own targeted promotion at the same time?

The 100k though is different for me. It is not a promotion but presented as a gift to show appreciation for being a loyal customer. Really strange to make that available to a (randomly?) chosen group of loyal customers.

Enough said - as some of you I have also canceled my February and March reservations and moved them to Marriott and IHG.

Nothing for me, my first year at Diamond, I was hoping they'd want to incentivize me to stay around. Oh well.

I agree. With Hilton no longer doing quarterly promos and me not getting any of the targeted offers, no incentive for me to stay at Hilton's unless it happens to be in a location where it's the only convenient location. Of course the half locations I would stay at always chose to opt out of the promos anyway.

I'm in FLL this weekend, and the stay is going to the Westin instead of the FLL beach resort. I figure I am not getting any incentive to stay there anyway and at least SPG will give me a 4 p.m. checkout with no hassle.

If Hilton doesn't want to give out promos, the least they could do is give diamonds a guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout and a decent speed free wifi.

the problem for hilton now is NOT that only certain people were eligible and NOT that the qualifying criteria are "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." that was NEVER the problem.

many people here, including me, can deal with the fact that we're not getting 100K points. what we can not abide is the lack of answers and specifics. hilton's long silence, followed by nonsensical pat answers and gobbledegook disguised as a marketing message is offensive.

look, everybody makes mistakes. the measure of a good customer-focused company is not whether they screw up... it's how they respond to customer concerns once having done so. hilton has failed miserably here with regard to providing timely, customer-focused and rational responses.

hey, they can create any qualifying criteria they like for any promotion; what they should not do if they want to maintain and gain market share is ignore their customers. that doesn't mean they have to give everybody 100K; they can continue to use whatever criteria they are using for this promo. but when objections are raised and inquiries are made by some of their best customers (by their own definition), they should be prepared to answer those questions in a straightforward and honest way.

that hasn't happened here... and THAT is a large part of why we're still talking about this 21 pages later.

i've canceled all my hilton stays in february, except for two nights at a conference with a negotiated rate at a designated conference hotel.

thanks for posting this link.
I clicked and entered, and the 100k posted immediately. That's an unexpected treat!

I will double check email preferences in my profile. I don't normally receive any offers now, and I was once signed up to get offers. But I do seem to remember that option was mysteriously turned off once before.

Not sure how fairness comes into play here. This is simply a gift from HH. While I did get it and feel fortunate, and while I can understand some people may feel not valued, mad they didn't etc - it's another thing to call foul to unfair.
