This is really good news and will be likely great for the property
A long needed change.I'd be delighted to go back to both Hilton Amsterdam or Waldorf now
Thanks for sharing

Looks like the current GM, Roberto Payer, will be leaving this property and the Hilton Amsterdam from Jan 2022. His replacement will be Katarina Schlaipfer who seems to be the current GM at the Conrad Algarve.

Hopefully she will improve the guest experience including HHonors members especially at the Hilton Amsterdam. Looking at her CV, she has had quite some experience moving from the different Hilton hotels around Europe (which I've not been to before).
Cheers!

Just booked a 4 night stay thanksgiving week here, very excited. Killed some free night certificates and one points night while we await another certificate. To say this will probably be my most posh redemption us an understatement, first time in amsterdam and so looking forward to staying here.

Room suggestions
Hi,
We have an upcoming booking at this property. We can already do the check in through the Hilton app and I see there are several rooms available to choose from, almost on every floor. Some of them seem to have Canal views and others Garden views. For those of you who have stayed at this property before, do you have a particular room number / floor you could recommend? Thanks

Off-putting hotel communication
I am staying here for two nights next month using points and I am already getting a bad feeling about my stay. First, I gave them my flight arrival information (which is really uncertain when you factor in possible delays) and they asked me (twice) that I book a room the night before to guarantee an early check-in. I am not expecting an early check-in but many people have mentioned it in tripadvisor reviews and I have Diamond status. I had to respond firmly that I planned to drop my stuff off and wander the city if a room isn't available (but I will want to know when to return to the hotel). They never replied to this email. Second, the concierge booked a car pick-up at the airport for me when I didn't even ask for one. I found this a bit annoying. I just emailed him back and stated firmly that I will be taking an Uber and I have no real idea when I will arrive at the hotel actually. I have heard of both flight delays and baggage delays at Schipol airport. I could arrive at 9am or noon. Why knows? Anyway, I am using a lot of points to stay at this hotel and plan to enjoy the property before I leave on a cruise. I like to travel on my terms and not the hotels. If my concerns are unwarranted please tell me but at this point I kind of regret not booking the Doubletree.

If your early checkin would not be granted, -which can only be determined on the day, they’d just store your bags, which you’re happy to accept anyway. There is no need to contact or reply to the hotel’s email.
Pre-arrival emails are mostly about upselling.

That may be the case here (it does sound like it), but that is a level of intrusive commercialism which is out of place at a European luxury hotel. I’d definitely provide feedback that I don’t expect to be upsold as if I’m staying at a timeshare resort.

What you have observed is Roberto Payer the GM.He's only about the money the rest is an act.And for some they are just fine with it.High pressure upsells etc
Its the business culture he set both at the Hilton Amsterdam and in May of 2014 when he took over the Waldorf Astoria and the property opened
I swore never to return not because the hotels weren't nice but playing hardball with Diamonds upgrades and recovering from problems and a lack of service.
Amsterdam has a number of great hotels and though I have a yearning to try the WA Amsterdam out (only did the Hilton)
I am happy at other properties and saving money and points and being well taken care of
Once he moves on I may return again in the future. That's the short story
Enjoy your travels and wishing you well in making the best choice for your journey

I believe you are seven months behind with reality. From that perspective, the future is now already.

I haven't been to Europe since Dec 2019
Sweet to know he has moved on but left his aggressive business behavior behind
Perhaps I can find a night for less than 500,000 HH points on their so called premium room and I'm in
He's definitely a bear an old grumpy one.
Poor Hilton Corporate had to beat on his executive door to get him to respond to guests and when he did oh boy
Not to compare him to a politician but boy could he blame everyone but himself for failures when they came up
Appreciate the heads up.Time to move on from the past I suppose

Well he was doing something right, there’s basically no where in the world where a Hilton property is number 1 on TA in a major city That’s quite an achievement for a luxury branded hotel. Hilton does not have a good rep for luxury.
Satisfying points guests and those spending real money is no easy task.
