More information can be found on the first page of this thread.

Additionally, you can save time by having AutoSlash generate a quote for you up-front by clicking here, or if you've already got a rental booked, just click here to enter your info and AutoSlash will check to see if a lower rate is available.

If you're looking for a specialty vehicle from Hertz (something from the Prestige/Adrenaline/Green Collections), it is helpful if you can specify the four-letter car size code (i.e. ICAR, MVAR, etc.) shown on the Hertz website for the specific vehicle you're looking for.

We are happy that this thread generates many new FlyerTalk members, and we hope you will stick around. By learning & sharing our knowledge freely, we all become better travelers. Hopefully some day you will be posting a reply, showing a new guy how to get a good rate.

Pickup Location (airport, city, or ZIP code/postcode): Berlin-Charlottenburg, Kaiserdamm 25a
Dropoff Location (if different) (airport, city, or ZIP code/postcode):TXL
Pickup Date and Time: July 31,2017, 2:00pm
Return Date and Time: Sept. 1,2017 10:00 am
Vehicle Size Preference: Group N? That's what I found considering I want/need an automatic transmission but a midsize 4 door should work
Home Country (if not USA): Canada
Memberships (AAA/USAA/airline FFP/Amex Plat/Cent etc): CAA, AMEX gold, aeroplan,
Best Price you've found, Hertz or otherwise: On hertz.ca with CAA I got $600 EUR or $887 CAD.
I picked charlottenburg as pick up because I don't want to get charged the airport tax. Drop off at airport is only a small charge.
Maybe I'm looking way too far in advance considering this is for next july. Either way, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

It's never too early to start looking (and booking) since you can always re-book if a better deal comes along. You can book with AutoSlash for 569.29 EUR. The nice thing about that is that we continually look for lower rates and we'll re-book you automatically if we find a better price.

AutoSlash can get you a deal of $665.98 (non-prepaid). PM us if you're interested as I can't send a booking link since our system gets a bit confused with the FRAR vehicle type.

I found as low as $1,782 for a Premium car with National, but if you are looking for insurance inclusive rates and your credit card does not provide coverage, then best to book with someone like Priceline where you can get an all-in deal. Honestly $2K for a PCAR with insurance is not bad at all since I'm not even seeing rates that low with Hertz without insurance through the channels we typically deal with.

Do you know where one can purchase CDW if I was to pick National?

I've booked via Priceline.com (Rentalcars.com), I received an email stating I have to pay a $500 USD one-way fee plus tax.

Converting this to AUD brings the total up to almost $2,700!

Any drop fees are included in the AutoSlash rate. Just sayin'.

In all seriousness, you should book something where you don't have to pay up front and then track the rental. June of next year is a long way way off and prices are going to change many times between now and then. The great thing about car rentals is that you really don't have to have any skin in the game so to speak, so there is zero downside to booking something and then seeing what happens with rates over the next 8 months or so. Prices are going to drop at some point, the question is when. By tracking the rate, then you're making sure you won't miss it when the drop happens.

As for insurance, I get that it's not common to have that as a benefit on your credit card as an AU resident, but there might be a card available that would cover you when renting overseas. Just something to look into as well as a company like rentalcover.com (which is AU-based btw).
