Need Help planning trip from PHX to KOA with stop in HNL
Hi
My wife and I are planning a trip to The Big Island next May. We will be flying out of PHX. We would like to fly PHX-HNL and take an inter island flight to KOA. This will allow us to spend a couple of nights on the return on Oahu at a lovely bed and breakfast we have stayed at before. I'm not sure how to go about the booking of our tickets and how we get our luggage from HNL to KOA on the first part of the trip. Do we have to check our luggage to HNL, retrieve the luggage and go through security again to take the inter island flight to KOA? Right now I am looking at using UAL miles for one of the tickets and paying for the second ticket. Most likely will use the UAL miles to try for a USAir flight as they fly non stop to HNL. Then use UAL miles for the inter island flight. That is secondary, my main issue is with the luggage. Any help is appreciated.

I seriously doubt that they will get cheaper. It seems they start at about $63 and gradually increase the price as they are filling up. Fortunately there are many flights each day between the islands, and if there is a cheaper one going earlier you could grab that and then spend some time at the airport.

Don't wait to book Interisland Hawaiian ticket
I've been booking interisland flights on Hawaiian for years, and unless there is a special sale, the fare will only go up. Sales are rare now that there isn't any serious competition within Hawaii.

Hi
I'm flying from Kona to HNl on Hawaiian, then flying Westjet to Vancouver BC. Hawaiian will not check my bags all the way through to YVR so I have to pick them up in HNL and recheck them in.
Is 1.5 hours enough time as I need to go through security
etc again.
Any chance Hawaiian drops their InterIsland prices
closer to flight day? (I'm 4 weeks way and prices are really high for my connecting flight, 147.00 one way)
Thanks for your help. I did read the thread but only saw connecting to an InterIsland flight or flying to the US.

I'm flying out of HNL in about a week to AKL with NZ and will be spending about 5 to 6 hours at HNL after arriving from LIH.
Does anybody have any ideas if I will be able to check my luggage upon arrival or will I have to wait before check-in for NZ opens some hours before the flight?
And will I be able to use one of the lounges while waiting (flying NZ Business, only *A/LH silver status) or any other ideas to spend my time?
Thanks.

I assume Biz on NZ gets you access to Koru lounge in HNL.
Pretty sure *A silver does not get you lounge access.
So if you are able to interline, stay on the secure side of the airport when you arrive in HNL, then head for the lounge to get checked in for NZ flight. Lounge opens 2.5 hours before the flight, but would be open if other NZ flights are earlier.

Need clarification for OLCI/Baggage issue
I have read the well written guidelines at the top of the thread concerning all the possibilities for connecting in HNL.
One specific issue I am seeking clarification: Scenario:
I am travelling MSP-HNL-KOA. Two separate itineraries booked.
MSP-HNL with Delta...and HNL-KOA with Hawaiian.
I understand that I should be able to have the bags Inter-lined through to KOA from MSP upon check-in and presenting both Itineraries/e-tickets.
My specific question is: What do I do regarding OLCI? We are planning on checking 2 pieces of Luggage(1 each)(Fees are not a issue as flying Business/First)
I can see when doing OLCI for the Delta portion.....I would tick off the # of bags planned to check in.
When doing OLCI for the Hawaiian segment....What do I select regarding checked bags? Zero?.....as they will be inter-lined.....or 2 ?
Or should I not bother at all with OLCI and have both sets of boarding passes printed out with the Bag tags by the Ticket agent at time of check-in with Delta at the Airport.
Trying not to over think this..however Just want to do the correct sequence so as to ensure a smooth transition.
Thanks for any assistance in this matter.

Two days ago, there were $52 fares. Yesterday, when I went to buy, they were gone again.

89 minute connection from go! to DL in HNL enough?
Hello,
I have currently booked myself plus wife and two little kids (3yrs, 9mths) on go! 1026 LIH-HNL arriving at 12:35pm, connecting to DL2364 departing at 2:04pm for LAX.
We will have checked baggage.
1. Does go! have an interline agreement with DL so that we do not need to handle our checked baggage in HNL and recheck with DL?
2. Is the connection time enough?
I am currently thinking if it is worth to rebook to the earlier flight (arrives at around 10:30am), which would cost us close to $150...
We could certainly try to stand by for the earlier flight if the risk if missing the DL flight would not be too high...
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions!

Dont know about interline between DL and go! But unless the DL flight is severely delayed, I don't think you should worry about standing by for the earlier DL flight as you should have ample time to make your connection. If you have no bags, just make sure to follow the instructions on staying inside security while you go from gate to gate. If you exit the secured area, you'll have to go through TSA again but the line at the commuter terminal where go! Is located is rarely long. Remember that Go! Has free standby so if you miss your flight, depending on the loads, you may be able to get on a later flight if the DL flight gets in late.
If you have bags, it may be a little bigger issue to reclaim your bags and recheck as I've seen DL take nearly an hour to get bags to bag claim at HNL. Best way to find out is to call go! And ask. They probably get the interline question a lot.

Thank you Slippahs!
It's the other way around, though, transferring from go! onto DL.
I called go! earlier today and the lady on the phone confirmed I would be able to check the bags through, i.e. do USDA inspection in LIH and not have to handle baggage in HNL. She also said we would have to go through TSA again in HNL. Is there no way to remain airside going from the commuter terminal to the main ones?

She's wrong. There's a waiting area right before the terminal exit at the commuter terminal. You will have to wait for an airline employee to escort you though. Then that leads you to the interisland terminal where the HA gates are. Stay airside all the way to the central concourse of the domestic terminal. You will have to screen yor carry ons again but this is only for USDA ag screening.
