they're more on time than Island Air... it was a mad rush to their counter this past weekend in MKK when Island Air announced their flight was delayed 3+ hours - but Mokulele was already full. Lots of VERY unhappy people...

Seems as though Hawaiian is working with the FAA and Empire Airlines (they'll be operating the planes) to modify the ATRs so that flying into JHM will be possible. It's a matter of being able to extend the flaps further, to a high degree which allows for steeper takeoff and landing profiles. We could very well see Ohana by Hawaiian at JHM. It's only fitting after all, since Hawaiian Airlines built the airport back in the day.

Tough when you elect to fly out 3 hours early in the hope of making your appointment or connecting flight....

Any more recent updates on ohana coming to jhm? Planning a trip for next spring/early summer...
Also, how are things on mokulele going? Any problems with luggage not getting on?

Agreed - it is public record from the last earnings call that Ohana is indefinitely delayed due to the sequestration as they can't get the air certificate to fly the route.

Meh. that can't be the entire story.
Empire Airlines is already a DOT-approved scheduled carrier. Its just been mostly cargo.
Empire Airlines already holds a Part 121 certificate, so the biggest hurdle is that sucker.
Maybe its issues with getting their inflight department set-up? (flt attendants?)... but it is highly unusual for it to take this long.

There's gotta be more to the story than what Empire and/or Hawaiian isn't saying. Empire has, for years, been a scheduled airline, and the ATR-42s are already on the certificate, unless these are super-uber special ATR-42s (not sure there's much of a difference in bringing in the -500 over the -200/300s outside of some updated manuals).
I'll check with a friend that was hired to be one of their captains.. may he has some inside info he could share.
