Just donated 2 days ago, so using that as an excuse to bump this thread.
One more donation to hit my next personal milestone!
(I know it can be hard for some of us to donate blood products, especially with how much we travel and the areas we go. But echoing dhammer53, thank you to all who donate and also those who try, but may not be able to donate that day for some reason or another. ^)

The last time my blood was accepted was in earlier 1965 at the Tachikawa Air Base Hospital, Japan. Since then, I’m essentially PNG.

Donating blood is something we should all do. We can also encourage expecting mothers to donate the cord blood versus having it discarded as medical waste. It now treats over 80 different diseases and conditions.

Not to get too OMNI here, but that seems a touch strong given that (as I understand it) the developers of the policy are at the FDA, and the recipients of the blood are not associated with the FDA (broadly speaking). It seems like a rather ineffective way to express one's view.

Sorry, I should have phrashed my statement better. It's not because I'm a social justice warrior -- far from it -- it's that I'm not allowed to donate blood because I'm gay. They test blood for HIV anyway, so what is the point? HIV tests and the crossover of HIV into the heterosexual population was many years ago.

Many airlines extend status for a year...but frequent blood donor status needs to be diligently earned. I am re-qualified for another year!

Frequent donor badge in Hong Kong for 2019-2020. And souvenir for donation.

That's a lot of swag for blood donors!
I recently gave blood as the need while always great is more so during this pandemic as so many donors cancelled their appointments for fear of contracting COVID. There were a number of new protocols to be observed when I arrived but it was pretty much the same as my past 8 other donations. Next appointment is in July.

Just gave platelets a few days ago - 12th donation of the calendar year. Usually my blood products stay within the New England area, but given the current situation, my platelets have spent most of this year in NY regional hospitals, along with DC area, Philadelphia area, and even as far as three hospitals in Las Vegas!
