Yesterday's AY 141 deviated from the route over Mongolia and China it had been taking recent weeks due to the Pakistani airspace closure and instead flew over Iran, below Pakistan and then eastwards across India.
Unfortunately I see this resulted in a 1.5 hour delay in arrival time which now of course affects AY 142 , scheduled to leave with a 1 hour and 5 minutes delay from BKK.
Wonder why this new route was chosen as over the course of last week it seemed AY was able to manage and limit the delays of the Mongolia-route.

For AY141 cruising in altitude 37000-41000ft bad weather means what?

Bad weather at crusing altitude... When you have aircraft bouncing around due to turbulence you have to increase the spacing which reduces the capacity of the airway. So adhoc or tempoary slots assigned in that route are cancelled.

Aircraft bouncing around ?

Sounds like a Hollywood movies flight. :D

It can also means that those airports would be closed to deviations and thus long hauls under ETOPS must find another route.

So AY can fly the normal route again?

oliver2002 May 15, 2019 9:22 am

Nope all flights to/from Indian airspace remain restricted.

I don't want to be a pessimist here, but they've extended the closure in short batches ever since it started, and I wouldn't count on the it actually ending on 30MAY.

I know, I'm just trying to un-jinx it. Also, fingers crossed for the new lounge being open then.

Given the latest on-time performances of AY142 I assume the ban is still effective? I wonder if Finnair would be able to rebook me on a new connecting flight already (before that flight would be fully booked). Flying in 11 days time.

Having 1hr exactly connecting time in HEL to catch my flight to Amsterdam, never never gonna make that of course.
