Call AY and tell them they have J award availability on your dates, and that you want a J award using Y points + vouchers. Janica will do it for you, and there's an additional fee of 1000 points per person. They'll send a payment link by email, and you have five hours to pay taxes, after which your ticket is issued. It's common practice to "pay" for a J award either with points only or with points+vouchers.
There's one thing to note, though. If there's an irrop and you are rerouted on another carrier, a J award will see you rerouted in J whereas Y+vouchers will see you rerouted in Y and vouchers returned to your account.

I was very surprised to find 4x J SH-awards around Xmas time - the previous years I've not seen any awards available during those weeks, and more recently, never more than 3 seats available on any one flight in general.

A quick question...
Looking at booking KUO-HEL-DUB for a Saturday in May.
Most convenient option is AY366 (ATR72) arriving at HEL at 1515, connecting to AY1385 (departure at 1600).
Is a 45min connection on a Saturday afternoon 'fine' these days?
FWiW, I have Platinum status and would have a business class booking for this route.
Thank you!

If I were to book a ticket on Google Flights, where it says, "Book on Google with Finnair", does it count like a direct sale through Finnair channels or would it be considered an OTA? From what is written on the site, it looks like Google would simply be just an interface, but sales would be done by AY. It even offers the selection between light, classic and flex.

I believe Google deeplinks to ay.com. that was the case when I tried.
THere is a new deep link format that takes you right into the " select flight" step of the booking.
Just reverse engineer that and maybe we can create a multi city booking engine...

Not fully the multi city booking, but at least with this Google option, an open jaw (e.g. BER-(HEL)-USA-HEL) seems to be possible.

This is almost a silly question but I'm rusty after two years of COVID: when flying US-HEL-EU do I grab my baggage from the trolley to go through customs or is it checked through to the final destination?
In case of the latter, would a 5 hour layover be a sufficient reason to ask to short-check baggage to HEL only?

one changed from HND to NRT (award, should get also taxes back without fee, right?)
another changed one day earlier (ORD)
not heard back yet but expecting they dont refund all, as Classic AY IT, and then I need to fight again.

Lets see if this holds true. I cancelled two bookings:
one changed from HND to NRT (award, should get also taxes back without fee, right?)
another changed one day earlier (ORD)
not heard back yet but expecting they dont refund all, as Classic AY IT, and then I need to fight again.

Does anyone have experience with Fiji Airlines?
Theyre Oneworld connect member and oneworld.com states:
Just wondering does AY Plat give anything there (like lounge access at SIN or NAN or luggage when leaving NAN as i have 40kg of camera equpment). Looking to buy some HEL-SIN-NAN in Y, as FJ has older 330 on SIN-NAN with 2-2-2 in J.
AYplus doesnt accure any points atleast.
Theyre Oneworld connect member and oneworld.com states:
oneworld connect partners provide select alliance benefits to frequent flyers from any oneworld member airlinetravelling on their flights, with a more extensive range of benefits offered with a subset of oneworld member airlines, known as their "oneworld sponsors".

My first two flights in AY Metal.
ivjeli! (That's Croatian but it's the closest I can get to Finnish).
Happy to try both the A330 (seems like it is the new J class in the map) and the A350-9 seems like the old J? I hope so because I really want to try the traditional lie flat J seat.
I really appreciate any seat suggestion/tip from the AY veterans.
ORD-HEL A330
HEL-ORD A350-900
