What would stop a person from using someone else's FF number? My non-FF friend just flew HEL-RVN on AY and got upgraded to J. I was baffled when she told me that she used her dads FF number on the booking.. Just wow! And how did that even work?

I might have got trolled there. So there's no J service to RVN? I've never flew a single domestic flight in Finland myself.. Thank god there's this new topic.. I guess the "business class" sign fooled someone here, but I do trust her when saying she keyed in his father's FF number. Wonder what are the consequences of trying..

A few years back, when MA was still flying and my sister hasn't moved to HEL yet, she was coming to visit me and we put my FF# to her booking. The flight was marketed by AY, but operated by MA. Not only I got the points after her flights, but the BUD-HEL leg was credited as a J flight
So at least ~7-8 years ago, the system was not sophisticated enough to check if the ff# really "belonged" to the traveller

I once tried to make a booking at AY.com and it didn't go through because one digit of my then-AA-FF# number was wrong. So the system detected that and I believe it was actually able to tell me that the name and FF# didn't match.
And I know of a father and son who have the same first (and last) name. They have a joint FF# account Need to make sure not to fly on the same day, though...
