If there is upgrade availability, it goes thru instantly. However, you might be waitlisted and the upgrade clears when/if new upgrade space is released. I have experienced everything between from months in advance and at the gate.

How do you request wait-listing now? With the old form, it would happen automatically when business class had seats available, but F had none. Nowadays, the new tool won't let you select a the segment in such circumstances - it just says unavailable.

You can't really request waitlisting, it is something CS does. So by mailing your upgrade request to AY+ service center will lead to waitlist if no F is available.

They could of course make the current tool support automatic waitlisting, like ANA does (below).
However, I think there are too many manual steps for that to easily be implemented. The waitlist-and-later-clear procedure includes some ping-pong between CS and revenue management done through internal messaging.

And I seriously hope that it will stay like that for another two months... Have some AA flights booked (all in N class) for early October (still from before the whole devaluation news) and I'm really counting on those 21K tier points...

Any of you happened to have access to data on which plane flew AY 757 (HEL-BUD) on 11 August? FlightDiary did not manage to pick it up automatically and there doesn't seem to be any info about that flight in FR24...

So you use FlightDiary? Can you compare it to Openflights? I use the latter, but no idea about FD.
