Fun fact, Tokyo Helsinki is now a longer flight than Tokyo London or Paris. Makes it a bit difficult to argue for connecting through Helsinki.

AFAIK some longer routings (unavailability of northern route) due to volcanic activity in Kamchatka (probably ETOPS Alternate limitations).

Interestingly, AY chose to go south around China yesterday, same route that is normally used eastwards. While JAL to Helsinki went over the Pacific, the Polar Sea, and Greenland in 13:08. JL43 seemed to move further West than usual around Kamchatka, but JL47 that departed an hour later than AY62 took a rather normal trek.

I wonder why AY took the southern and westerly route.

The airside bus to T5 leaves from 61C - take it and do the whole round and arrive back to 61C

When things WORK your way

DOH - from wheels on tarmac to hotel door 50 minutes
ALA - from wheels on tarmac to hotel door 40 minutes

These timings include taxiing, deplaning, trek in the terminal, immigration and ride to the hotel.

For full disclosure these are nighttime results.

You beat me! 55 minutes from wheels on tarmac to Mövenpick. But I stopped to withdraw some cash from an ATM at the airport. Let's see how it goes in June when I booked a quick overnight at the Premier Inn, which is closer to the airport.

Take the bus, stay on it at the two T5 stops and get off the bus again at T2 61C - you're back where you want to be for your return flight, without going landside.

This was to the Westin. Cash? Boomer!

(I'm so fed up with DOH staff. With QR economy ticket, OWE.
- At checkin "Which lounge can I use?" "Oryx"
- At Oryx South "You need to go to North, you're leaving from gate Cxx"
- At Oryx North/Al Maha North "You need to go to the Business lounge, around the corner"
- At Plat North - it's closed
- At Plat South - "you need to go to Plat North, you're leaving from gate Cxx" - this is where I blew up, so they just let me in.

All this could have been avoided, if the upgrade had cleared at checkin instead of T-50 at the gate

Not to mention that the signage is just horrible)

I don't know ARN that well, but once you're at baggage claim, I guess no way to do that.

Truth be told, ARN does its best to hide the existence of this bus.

Only way is out if arrival gate is 61/62 at ARN.

So if you have access to 61C then you have access to other gates too and short turnaround is not a problem. No need for bus tricks.

When arrival gate is 61/62 then must go out to landside and then thru security back to airside. Idiotic.

I'm probably a pre-boomer mentally But I don't think the taxis in Doha take anything but cash? This would actually be useful info as I don't have enough riyals for a roundtrip to the Premier Inn, and would like to avoid an expensive withdrawal. The only reason I even need to stay overnight is because QR retimed their SEZ-DOH flight, creating an overnight transit instead of what was supposed to be an easy 3-hour transit at DOH.
