But here comes the worst part: on my first DEL transfer, the masochist in me decided to stay in the city for 28 hours. I should never have read The Most Beautiful Hands of Delhi...

Yeah, that's why I'm going Nah, it's a Swedish novel called Delhis vackraste händer that I bought at ARN and it's actually a really funny read that I would recommend for anyone who has some interest in Delhi, be it negative or positive. Vibrant and truthful descriptions about the city and the culture.

How safe is CDG for direct turnarounds? I remember them pouring arrivals straight into the departure hall, but I'm not sure if they ever use bus gates there?

Seriously, dont trust on gate arrival. Anything can happen as of arrival formalities there. I have done many separate tix at CDG and allowed always enough playroom. So much enough to take a short visit to the lovely city!

CDG should be safe. Bus gates are used for the last arrival and first departure, but then you have the whole night to turn around. Otherwise, I reckon gate bridges are used.
There are occasionally passport checks though. In that case, it might be iffy time-wise.

Celebrating Finnair's 95th Birthday there seems to be a sale at least for flights from HEL. In business JFK 1795€ and Miami/Los Angeles 2095€. In economy JFK 395€ and some very cheap European flights for example LHR and AMS under 100€.

Though not on AY, I've done it and it was not complicated. Head for "arrivals" but make sure you find the "transfer" passage, it is a small stair case taking you to departure gates. I remember it as being behind a glass door.

I don't have experience about transiting at LPA, but I'd say it's pretty safe. The plane stays on the ground for quite a while and IME they start boarding kind of late, usually. If you need to go landside, please note that there are two security checkpoints. The one in the main (Finnair) check-in hall can be very busy, but if you walk the long corridor to the other (northern) check-in hall (look for Binter Canarias check-in), there's another checkpoint which is dead quiet. It's mostly meant for Binter flights, I guess, but they've never turned me away. There's a duty free store right behind the check-point, which is quiet, too, so remember to stock up on cigarettes and alcohol. ^

For anyone looking for European mileage runs in more comfort AY is selling AGP or MAD for 599€ rt in J. What makes this interesting now is the possibility to fly A333 to AGP on Fri or Sun from 14.12. onwards and even same plane returns are available. This is especially interesting for BA Executive Club members as HEL-AGP yields 140 TPs in J.
