Due to the apparent complexity of a 3 passenger itinerary with upgrades, the AY website would not allow me to select seats even by going through with payment.
I found however, that the QR website recognised my status, and allowed me to select my seats on an all-AY booking without requesting payment. Could be useful, I guess.

This is interesting! So with a BA Gold card and AY flights (AY metal, flight number) you can go to the QR website and pick seats. Thanks for the tip!

"Manage my booking"
The seat selection using "Manage my booking" has recently disappeared regarding my J-reservations, the "select seat"-button isn't there anymore?
I also have Y reservations, and there the seat selection is available,
so this feature it's not totally gone.
has anyone else been struggling with the same issue lately?

I have a few F reservations, where I cannot change seats anymore. I know I have been able to select seats on these same reservations earlier. So I guess I am also experience the same.

Now I did just that. The problem is that I'm traveling with someone
(who has a different booking ref) and I would like to make sure that we could get the seats from the same row. When I don't see the seat map, this becomes rather complicated.
The tickets were issued properly, I was able to change the seats before,
but this feature disappeared a few weeks ago.

"Toivon mukaan saadaan istuinpaikkojen valinta taas toimintaan mahdollisimman pian. Mutta siihen mennessä joutuu istuinpaikat valitsemaan meidän kautta. --" Finnair Customer Care Center
Sorry that it's in Finnish, "we hope to get this fixed asap, but in the mean time one has to change the seats through Customer Care."

Thankfully AY+ treats OWE members as their own Plats, so I can call the Plat line and book exit seats for free - seems to be very effective and relatively fast to answer (not to mention 24/7)

I booked AY5/6 through aa.com, and tried to select seats with AY record locator found on my e-ticket. The seat selection button is gone indeed, but I somehow managed to get to the right page by using the link for adding TSA information. I selected seats and confirmed them, but the site never asked me to pay for those seats (I am AA GLD = OWR). Checkmytrip indicates that my current seat selection is confirmed. Does this mean that I got these seats for free, or are they going to ask for money at the airport?
Strange thing: AA.com shows that these flights have been replaced with new flight numbers, AA6025->AA8985. All the details remained same. I noticed this today, maybe they are only messing with the codeshare flight numbers?
