Everyone is affected but the bloggers are not as much since they receive revenue from all the card sign up links, publicity, ad, etc.
The majority of bloggers don't do it for the money, just putting that out there.

What, then, do you think they do it for? The altruistic hope that everyone in the world can put their "knowledge" to good use? That was a facetious and rhetorical question. Whatever they do it for, you do think it would not cost them money to obtain otherwise?

True.

This is one of those days where you get to play with lies, damn lies and statistics. How many bloggers are there out there? How many are making money doing it?

But if you limit the population to the "big" bloggers then of course they're in it for the money. Heck, it makes a nice enough side gig for me, too.

Just depends on perspective.

I can vouch for this - your Twitter feed is what I look to when I see a big announcement - just to see you shredding the "titans" for their posts

Well your blog is very different from things found on VFTW.

Don't tarnish the name of statistics.

Honestly I still don't get what non-"big" bloggers do it for if not the money. The hopes that they will one day make it big and make money?

One day win the Pulitzer prize?
Keeping busy and staying out of trouble?
The positive feedback?
The dialogue with readers and haters?
The once in the blue moon CSP conversion?
Giving back?
Educating, Entertaining, Inspiring?
Being stubborn as hell?
I could go on...

Or all of the above

From the sound of things (e.g. you), I think it's evident that "being stubborn as hell" weighs the most...

Do you have any hobbies? Do you do them for profit?

I find hand-washing my flimsy-weave fabrics and cashmere scarves very meditative... other than that, eating, and drinking, no, most of my hobbies eventually make money. Well actually I designed the menu for a restaurant, that made money. So really just hand washing clothes and drinking don't make me money. But I did work at a restaurant pro bono because I liked to cook, but my hobby doesn't cost other people anything.

Emirates absolutely wants people using the product and flying in it however those passengers book the seats. But it also wants to be paid for said bookings.
Have to disagree there. EK & EY only feature their latest high end C/F product in their ads showing any product. Ads for their Y travellers are more about the destination experience. EK F and EY Residence are what germans call lighthouse products used in advertising to build the brand. Thats the same reason you will see a 7 or 5 series in general BMW ads.

Brand aura building, in the hopes that the halo over the brand's superior product blinds people to the not-superior products oriented toward a more mass market audience.
