I use the milepoint forum, they have a points and likes system, the more points and likes you receive then you will receive rewards. I have not, however, seen offers since I've been a member rewarding any Ipads or any luxury items available for signing up.

Note the circle on 'US Data Only'. Global data isn't stellar either:

View Screen Capture

Since all data is pretty much based estimates, its a rough indicator on the fortunes of a site. So you can say a certain peak is because of a certain event. Regarding the freedies voting traffice, AFAIR there was a link at the end of the ballot that gave you the option to visit MP and win an ipad. I doubt everyone followed it after the vote?

No surprise that you haven't seen such, as that was never really offered.

In these stats, what is "Impressions" referring to? It's different from "visits", I assume?

You visit a site and then view a number of pages, impressions is related to the latter, ie how many times you can be hit/impressed with ads. Once you have larger sites with heavy traffic (1M+ impressions), you get paid by how many times the ads are displayed and clicks. Boarding area should have reached that stage by now.

I look at it about once every 6 months to see if it has become anything more than mileagepluspoint.com, but it doesn't seem to be gaining any traction otherwise.

You really have to wonder?

I've been active FT for 4 years or so, lurked a couple of years before that. In that time it has become significantly less friendly particularly to newbies. It has become highly insular with much moving to PM exchanges. Moderation has caused a slew of new postings to be merged into useless mega threads. And most recently the one true hub and heart of activity MilesBuzz! has been decimated and now FT has no central home. I would not be at all surprised to see the decline in traffic continue in favor of the blogs. Randy and co may not have it 100% right with Milepoint but for sure BoardingArea has far more mass appeal than this place. Which is a very sad state of affairs.

I think you're on target pretty much. There are lessons FT could learn from MP and even from other online forums. But it frankly is kind of hard to really have those conversations as general members of FT, as there are so many restrictions on discussing certain things, and on where those discussions may take place.

And I think both sites suffer from the increase in blogs.

What has changed FT is that previously it was a labor of love and now it's a labor of profit.

IBB wants a return on it's investment. There's nothing wrong with that, but now the members are actually the product. Again, nothing wrong with that.

Milepoint was never really shy about making money from various events, though they didn't come right out and say it.

In a perfect world, Randy would have kept FT and applied some of those money making principles here rather than start a new board.

I'm actually disappointed in both.

Are you suggesting that Randy wasn't interested in profiting from FT when he ran it??
