Does anyone here also post on Milepoint?

Kinda curious. When it started I grabbed an account to try to win an ipad... I occasionally pop in and it seems like a ghost town except for their version if OMNI. I did find it funny while looking around that they call FT "TOBB"... seemed childish?

On some level it kinda annoyed me. You all-star posters and evangelists made FT great - and great enough for the owner to make a few million... That's great that they made some money on it, but I thought it was funny that they then wanted posters to move to a new site, rebuild ALL the content - and for what? So the same owners can remonitize it and sell it again and repeat the process (on the backs of the posters)?

Anyhow curious who uses the other board too

Yes.

Yes.

I spend time where my friends are and where there is useful information. That means both sites (and other places, too).

I always figured there more posts, more people, more information here, and everything there is simply a smaller subset. So why bother?

I maybe stop by MP every 3-4 months. It's not much in my mindset, as I'm used to FT, get more info here quite frankly (one of the hotel forums I visit there is basically a ghost town, whereas it's quite active on FT), and only have X amount of time in my day. I do think TOBB is a bit childish. I also think there are multiple resources out there for those into travel & miles/points, and folk should go to the one(s) that makes the most sense to them, whether it be FT, MP, TripAdvisor, etc, etc, etc.

Cheers.

I do have a handle on there, and it's not my one on here. I have posted, but I haven't for several months. The forums I would use are moribund. I don't think they have attracted enough non-US flyers (or to be more specific UK flyers).

BA already has two active forums - FT and MFT (which incidentally also uses TOBB). VS has two active forums vflyer and FT. There just doesn't seem to be space or interest for a third one relating to UK airlines.

TOBB doesn't bother me - ISTR it's a play on the House of Lords in the UK, who use 'the other place' to refer to the House of Commons.

Thats the key issue here: new BBs have to find a niche not served by the first movers. Other examples are vielfliegertreff.de and businessclass.se who captured the segment of FTers who are not super fluent in English and prefer to parley in their own language.

I post there under the same user name. Don't see anything wrong with the term TOBB.

Pretty much my experience, although I would add that the miserable (although "pretty," I'll give it that) interface frustrates me in about 30 seconds (the lack of an equivalent, unless something's changed that I missed, to "My FlyerTalk" makes navigation tiresome and tedious).

I might be able to live with that if most of the information wasn't derivative of what was already posted, in much more detail, on FT.

I eagerly signed up when it was started, but then was turned off by the opaque way its ownership was presented.

And I do agree that it's a bit TOO like the original. If your selling points are 'prettier' and 'more friendly' then you are better suited to the escort business than the information business.

These days I only use it to follow the Megado 411.

I do browse it occasionally, but often feel like it's the automated feed for all the blogs that post there. Real discussions of deals just don't seem to be an active part over there.

I did win an ipad there, and had really hoped that it would morph into something better. I just don't see the postings of Jumbos and other good deals that I see on FT.

Their Premium membership was a fairly good deal, but for someone so familiar with point deals, they said you could buy extras as gifts, but then you could only transfer the bonus miles/points into Hyatt/United once. Never disclosed upfront. I tried to swap with someone, only to be told, like a month later, that you couldn't do it.

Well MP, SMD, & FTU probably appreciate your somewhat obsession w/ them/mentions, as this forum is open to google search engines & every time you go on about them probably helps them :p :D

Cheers.

My obsession is with points and miles and points and miles service providers.

They just happen to have lots of points and mile service provider ventures.

If I am helping their ventures then I am glad to do so. Do you think I should ask for a marketing fee? @:-):D

I'm a Gold level Member on MP, but rarely go there ... mainly just for MP-stuff like DOs and FTUs.

ma91pmh May 31, 2013 7:59 am

Very infrequent use of MP.

That said there are certain users, e.g. JonNYC, who the FT community has decided to ban, who are high value contributors. Another example of FT shooting itself in it's feet

I post on milepoint under the same handle as I have here and while I do post occasionally in the UA and Travel Security forums, the majority of my posts have been in the People Association and Movie Association threads as imho, I don't find the majority of the information in "the second happiest place on earth" that useful
