If I was going to claim that deduction I'd be sure to get a receipt from the FTEF reflecting that! @:-)^

But since no one's tax rate is 100%, the tax savings is relatively small compared to the $200 deduction (not credit - there is a huge difference).

Yes, it amounts to a small reduction in taxes, but a big penalty if taken and it turns out in an audit that it is not an allowed deduction. @:-)

Looks like the event is down to 24 in coach and 3 in Tommy Class.

Will they come up with a new discount?

Find an even smaller plane?

Press the PR hard?

Before anyone else comes out and says it, this is wrong, and I screwed it up. The price will be $595 per bag, which is identical to the MSRP. Apparently I missed the *95* part of the price during that phone call and was just informed of my mistake.

$200 of the price will go to charity and you will receive a donation receipt for it.

This was completely my error. Sorry.

Why would it not be an allowed deduction if someone gets a receipt confirming tax deductibility? Also, many IRS penalties can be abated, especially if it can be shown that such deductions were taken in good faith. Not all adjustments during audits incur "big penalties."

What is the deal for non USA citizens?

As a Canadian, I can't use the donation receipt.

The deal is... too bad. Wish I could say otherwise, as I'm similarly a Canadian, but there isn't much we can do to assist people outside of the States as FTEF is US based.

And it goes the other way around too On SMD2 there was an auction to visit LH's pilot training center in Phoenix, with proceeds to LH's charity. Since LH is German-based, I as a US citizen couldn't get the charitable deduction.

Cheers.

Looks like a total of zero seats sold in the past week. 22 left in E- and 3 left in Tommy/E+.

Maybe the FTEF could offer free E- seats to those 'contributors' who bought Diamond level memberships in FTEF! They did pony up a $2,000 annual fee, after all! @:-) ^

Hotel details announced for the SMD5

We has hoped to be able to provide a cheaper hotel option, through one of the Courtyards, but it just wasn't working from a logistics perspective. Given the busing nightmare of SMD4, we think this was the right call and that everyone will have a better experience for it. As noted by Pat, individuals sharing rooms will both be eligible for the Platinum status, so you can reduce the cost through sharing.

The hotel hotel in San Francisco is the Airport Marriott Waterfront ($139 / night). You don't need to stay here to earn the status, but it'll be where all the after-parties are, so it's probably a good idea. I can tell you I'll be there.

Marriott Promo isn't starting July 20. To start, no, I'm not happy with that either, but it is what it is. The promo is still the best MegaDo promo ever (it hasn't changed), but we just couldn't get all the paperwork done in time to get it rolling by the 20th. We will announce a new start date in the near future.Sorry about that. 2 nights in Toronto, on the group rate, are required to get the Platinum status.

Well if some are willing to share rooms to reduce costs (which I've seen at conventions as well), both will get the Plat status per what koko posted.

Cheers.

Looks like no additional seats sold, but a few e- seats 'blocked.' Presumably for press and other comped participants?

I dunno about that, but the refund policy seems to resemble the new United's: folks in e- that paid the higher fare before the re-redux reduction are still waiting on their refund of the difference.
