Eva Meal Schedule

Having a very hard time trying to figure out answer to this question through EVA's challenging website. We're flying SFO-TPE on a red eye leaving at 11:30pm. Would like to know how many meals to expect and at what point in the flight to expect them? Flying with two kids and trying to figure out how to keep them asleep for as long as possible. Thanks in advance!

There is a slight variance depending on what class of service you fly, but in general you get a meal almost immediately after takeoff, usually within 30 mins of wheels up. And then the second meal usually occurs approximately 2-2.5 hours before landing. When I've had my kiddos on the redeyes, they usually have a snack or something before boarding and just skip the first meal service in favor of going straight to bed. However, with the longer flight times going west in the winter time, you do run the risk of them waking up hungry hours before breakfast. They do have snacks available in between, but nothing substantial unless you're in business class.

They always give two meals and a snack at least.

Like mentioned they'll have a meal about 30 minutes after takeoff and another around 2 hours prior to landing. They will have a snack (sandwich) around halfway through the journey. In addition they will have crackers and snack mix throughout the flight.

One thing that is very thoughtful of their service is that they can keep the first meal in the oven for a couple hours in case your kids fall asleep right after takeoff and then wake up couple hours later. They will reheat it for you and serve. Remember to also order the kids meal. It's quite cute and your kids may want to stay up for that

BR 17 (SPE-TPO) leaves just after midnight. I see that they have reduced meal (business class) for dinner (they call it supper). When is this served and when do they serve breakfast? Can I get 7 hrs sleep between the 2?

You can check out the Royal Laurel Meal thread and there are plenty of samples of late night menus.

For all midnight flights, EVA Air will serve a supper (modified three course dinner) shortly after takeoff. They usually finish all service within two hours after takeoff including duty free runs. Then breakfast is offered two hours prior to arrival. They have a mid-flight snack menu, which is on demand. The F/As served them at anytime you want and you can have multiple items too. You can easily get an uninterrupted ten hours sleep on these long transpacific flights.

Whats modified in the supper meal from a regular dinner meal service?

Is it recommended to eat some in lounge at TPE before a BR16 flight?

Supper is missing soup and salad courses, and has only one dessert choice (of fruit and cake) compared to cheese, cake, ice cream, and/or fruit with dinner. That said, I flew BR16 earlier this year expecting supper and the menu indicated supper, but got the full dinner service instead.

Either way, to answer your second question, I found the supper on the outbound BR11 to be more than sufficient in terms of quantity and quality, having not eaten at the lounge beforehand.

You can check out this thread:

There are plenty of meal photos. I personally posted a late night departure from Taipei to Munich that I took last year. The service will be similar to all long haul flights that depart after 10pm. The supper is designed to be served more efficiently, as EVA AIr presumes most passengers want to go to sleep. Honestly if you fly business, I can't imagine you going hungry. The crews will always serve you the noodle soup or hamburger from the mid flight snack menu immediately after supper if you are still hungry. Many people skip the first meals too so they may have extra main courses lying around too. I am not a fan of EVA Air's Taipei lounge, but since BR 16 departs midnight, I presume you will have a normal dinner in the city before heading to airport.

For premium economy and economy class, EVA Air serves supper right after takeoff on those late night flights, and then a breakfast/light meal prior to arrival. They sometimes start three hours prior to arrival especially on westbound flights, as most passengers will get hungry earlier due to time differences. The sandwich service is still ongoing and there are light packaged snacks available too.

I don't think most airlines would tell you the exact timing of the meals on the flights on their website. There used to be codes attached to the schedules that indicate the meals so you can tell on the GDS. I don't know if they still exist or are accurate.

I have done BR TPAC from the west coast in Y a few times recently. It seems their strategy is 2 more substantial meals in Y with no snack (other than the stuff (cookies, rice crackers, etc.) in the galley you can get yourself). I personally think it is not enough - especially LAX-TPE which can be 14+ hours in the winter. UA SFO-TPE for example, serves 2 smaller less impressive meals + a more substantial snack between (e.g. small sandwich) both ways. As much subpar as I think UA's meals are, the schedule seems to make more sense to me.

I think Midwest and east coast flights are different but I have not been on one for a long time.

EVA Air actually does not even offer any type of substantial snack in business class from Taipei to West Coast because those flights are quite short and EVA Air thinks that business class passengers chose sleep and don't need more substantial snack. The usual snack bar is well stocked but if you want something more substantial, instant noodle is possibly the only choice. However a substantial snack menu including stir fry noodles and Hamburger is available on flights Taipei to Chicago/Houston/New York/Toronto. From West Coast back to Taiwan, there is alas a more substantial snack menu in business class and I presume a sandwich is offered in premium economy and economy too. Flight time is a bit longer now since Russian airspace is closed.

Is this a recent change? I was last on BR26 in June and mid flight snacks were (burgers/noodles etc) were readily available.

I was on BR 12 in late May.
I guess only BR 12/18 the 7pm departure to West Coast don't have mid-flight snack for business class.

With the supper service on the late night bank, BR may see some demands for a substantial snack especially some may skip supper after takeoff.

I know the 11am departure BR 6/8 have mid-flight snack too. That's possibly of the day time departure.

Anyway, instant noodles are always available in business class, in addition to the usual array of packaged snacks!
