Upgrading a Single Segment
I'm looking at a MNL-HAM business class fare, A340-500 on DXB-HAM-DXB. Not knowing much about Skywards, I thought I'd ask a few questions before buying it.
Can I upgrade just the DXB-HAM leg for 25000 miles?
BK: C, fare basis: CEE3MPH1
EK205 has F awards available
I need to top up the dormant Skywards account too, any idea how long the miles take to post?
Thanks in advance.

Subject to availability, Emirates seem to allow you to upgrade anything. Certainly C to F for one sector should be fine. Last time I travelled with them, I upgraded one segment, then followed with another as more miles became available.

I should have put subject to availability.
I'm afraid I do not know what fare class they use for award tickets, my understanding is that it is a revenue class and not an award class, which means that there is usually better availability.
OT: Another thread mentioned that there was no F class award inventory available between Dubai and Sydney, but this may only have been on the direct route. It's also possible that it differs depending upon the country of origin.
And to corroborate what Mogensen says, I purchased miles on the internet and called up to make the award booking almost immediately.

Thanks for the replies!
The "purchase miles" payment system doesn't seem to be working, it declined three different credit cards, all of which have the funds available. In fact bought a SQ ticket more expensive than the miles would have been 10 mins later, so it can't be my cards.
Do the service centres sell miles on the phone? (closed at the moment)

Try closing your browser and starting another session.
On the other hand, the Emirates site can be very buggy and sometimes the simplest things do not work, so you may just be out of luck today. Try phoning a service centre in another country!

Best to phone your local SkyWards office and explain what you want to do, may be they can check whether there are seats available before you purchase the extra miles.
I called the other day to upgrade on one sector of my next flight BHX-DXB-BKK RTN, I wanted to upgrade on my last sector [DXB-BHX] so I have a limo to get me home, upgrade & limo booked and confirmed in one phone call.

You may find that this is precisely the reason why one of your cards has been declined, I recently purchased a ticket on American Arlines, then 5 minutes later went to buy a ticket on Qantas. The Qantas ticket was declined. If they are advanced enough, they may then keep the fact that one card has been declined connected to your session and decline subsequent transactions on the basis that it may be fraudulent.

I guess there is just some bug... The website says miles can be purchased in service centres in DXB/CMB/MAN/MEL, thus my question whether they sell them on the phone.
