I flew on it at the beginning of this month. The load was 0/1/17 out of a capacity of 8/42/304

checked the loads of emirates staff.com . For now they wouldn’t even manage to fill an ERJ, let alone a 380. The flight is being operated 3 to 4 times per week at most.

I've flown this route a number of times although not recently. When I flew in Y, most of the pax were Swiss going beyond Dubai... I would imagine mostly to (SE) Asia, Indian ocean, S pac and E/S Africa. Right now all except the last category are closed to European tourists. So based on my assumption and recent experience on EK flights ex Germany and elsewhere in Europe... the pax demand is very light. Inbound traffic to Europe Inc to ZRH also light. Its not hot enough in Gulf now nor is it possible for most Gulf citizens to visit Switzerland. When loads increase, then we will see increased frequency and aircraft upgrade maybe. Travel restrictions being lifted being the key factor.

I fully agree on the travel restrictions! They put me off flying at the moment.

Visitors from the Gulf actually can now enter Switzerland without having to go into quarantine. In fact, our Covid numbers are so high that almost all countries have been removed from the mandatory quarantine list! Only visitors from Andorra, Armenia, Belgium, Czech Republic and 3 regions of France still have to go into mandatory quarantine upon arrival (as of 23 November).

Switzerland on the other hand is on most countries’ mandatory quarantine list, so demand for international travel is rather subdued.

Passenger numbers at ZRH are still very low. I guess the high demand in cargo makes this route currently economically viable.

More A380 services to the UK - sounds like these will stick!

https://www.routesonline.com/news/29...80-deployment/

Emirates Airline will expand service to the UK over the coming weeks following the establishment of an air corridor between the UK and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Dubai-based carrier plans to grow UK weekly frequencies from 37 to 52 by early December, as well as increasing Airbus A380 deployment.

Under the air travel corridor, passengers entering the UK from the UAE will no longer be required to quarantine for two weeks. Travelers heading to Dubai (DXB) will still be required to undertake a PCR test on arrival or up to 96 hrs. before departure.

From Nov. 27, Emirates will operate A380 service 4X-daily to London Heathrow (LHR), up from the current 2X-daily A380 and 1X-daily Boeing 777-300ER flights.

Service to Manchester (MAN) will rise from 8X-weekly to 10X-weekly from Dec. 1, six of which will be served by A380s and four on board 777-300ERs. Emirates will also increase flights to Birmingham (BHX) and Glasgow (GLA) from 4X-weekly to daily.
Continues..

Notwithstanding that according to a number of reports online that the YYZ-DXB route has the A380 (I've confirmed it on Flightmapper) the online booking tool for Emirates is still showing the aircraft as the 777. Anyone else notice this? Is this an error???

FLIGHT SCHEDULE DIRECT FLIGHTS: Sat,Sun 03:30 Dubai (DXB) 3 09:30 Lester B. Pearson, Toronto (YYZ) 1 EK 241 Non-stop Airbus A380 (388) 14:00 Effective 2020-08-01 through 2020-10-31 Mon,Wed,Fri 03:30 Dubai (DXB) 3 09:30 Lester B. Pearson, Toronto (YYZ) 1 EK 241 Non-stop Airbus A380 (388) 14:00 Effective 2020-08-03 through 2020-10-30

I should also note that according to FlightAware, the actual flights taking off are 77Ws -- see attached.

YYZ was served by an A380 for just over one month, from 16th August to 18th September.

B777 is not an error, don't rely on other websites for information. Check EK and EF for what equipment they're showing and verify it with FR24.

Anybody flown Y recently? What's the experience like with respect to Covid?

- Masks (I assume so)?
- Loo - do you need to request to go, or is it back to normal?
- Food and drink?

Anything else?

Thanks

Masks yes, and most pax comply. After take off I haven't seen cabin crew remind non complyers. Cabin crew appear to feel well protected by their masks, faceshields., altho they kindly tell people approaching not to use the rear loos as for cabin crew use (only).

Meals and drink now same as before.

I don't get the welcome as gold card member at seat now. Although I believe that cabin crew are aware of my status as a few times I've been asked chicken or meat before food serving "as we want to be sure you get your choice".

The big difference of course (on the flights I've taken), is that the Y cabin is fairly empty!

Thanks! Looking to do a pre-Christmas break to Dubai. J & F is ridiculously priced, so Y it is - with maybe a points upgrade on one of the legs.

Masks yes while boarding and initially, but frankly there's no enforcement later on specially once the lights are turned off. I was on the 15 hour LAX to DXB flight, and after the lights turned off I didn't really have to wear the mask while in my lie-flat economy row (empty plane almost everyone got their own economy row). I felt bad for people who paid more for business class because clearly I had more space in my 4-across economy row, with 4 pillows and 4 blankets, than any business class seat.

Food and drink completely normal, loo normal everything very normal frankly.

Sounds like premium economy without the price tag!
