Folks,

Can we leave the bickering, posts that are getting too personal and politics out of this thread.

Whether you think nations are going OTT in dealing with this virus or airlines are not doing enough to prevent spread, those are decisions beyond the average Flyertalk member’s control.

This thread is primarily here to give accurate information related to how Emirates are dealing with the situation and to give advice (where we can) to fellow FTers looking for assistance.

If you wish to discuss Coronavirus and politics then take it to OMNI/PR if your posting privileges allow. If you want some in-depth discussion about it then visit the China forum https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chin...-virus-79.html but please keep this thread as factual and concise as possible.

Thanks for your understanding.

I agree, thank you for this comment. Here is the World Health Organization website with the most up-to-date information:

Anyone gone though MXP back to JFK can you comment on your experience upon landing at T4 JFK?

I've not been on EK, but I arrived into T4 last year and it was horrendous. We were fortunate that we got a bus to immigration, as it dropped us off closer to the front of the immigration queue (I heard somebody say they'd been queueing for 2 hours). We just then had to merge into the queue, rather than try and find the back :).

Once you get near the front, it splits off into the APC booths and regular queues. Of course, there tends to be a high proportion of inexperienced flyers in T4, so it's then just chaos, with nobody knowing where they are supposed to be going. A lot of people who aren't eligible for the booths then block them as they try to use them. There were a couple of floating "helpers" who did nothing much more than shout loudly at everybody.

We were lucky, and it probably only took us around 30 minutes to get through. I don't recall there being a formal customs check, but if there was, it was very quick.

Edit - sorry, just realised this was the coronavirus thread.... not the newby thread :D

None of these applies me ( spouse of the US citizen) . More curious about the arrivals from Milan since the plague is already there.
I think its interesting that people are going crazy about China and Asia arrivals, but no one seems to care about Italy….talk about double standards

I have added a Wiki to the top of the page with the link to the latest information on the EK website. Grateful if folks could update when applicable.

Thanks

When arriving at CPT on Wednesday, every passenger on the way to the immigration hall had his / her temperature checked and was asked if he / she had been to ‘Asia or Italy’.

I have tickets to Milan from JFK for mid April. Today, American suspended all the flights to Italy until Apr 24. I assume the same will happen with Emirates soon. I am wondering if they will just refund the fare of give a voucher for future travel if this happens.

To date, once a destination is affected, Emirates has offered refunds or rebooking options. MXP (and other Italian destinations) would likely be the same (if/when that happens).

Looks like they just took the scanners out of the ebola closet from a couple years ago.

On arrival at Johannesburg airport last week we were told to remain seated. A team of six 'health officials' boarded and checked our temperature from a hand held device.

The A380 was nearly full and it took about 20 minutes. No-one was allowed off till everyone had been checked. We weren't asked any questions.

Hi all,

Appreciate your thoughts on my situation (albeit, I suspect most of you will say that nobody will know yet!).

We have booked JAL flights using EK points - Sydney to Japan - in May, before we fly onto Europe.

I know it's some time off and we don't know how this thing is going to eventuate - but my points will actually have expired, if I have to cancel or re-arrange my flight. Not sure if they would look to extend points expiry, if this happens, or allow me to ticket elsewhere?

My hunch is EK will be the last to cancel if they even do. The flight continues to Dubai. Personally I think its a huge opportunity to essentially be a duopoly.

I should note, Alitalia still flies from JFK to MXP daily. Only the US flag carriers have cancelled ( no surprise)

Emirates is adjusting its flights schedule and capacity on certain routes across different regions in response to changing passenger demand as governments step up measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Longton Mar 3, 2020 6:25 am

"While we have seen some slowdown in certain markets there has been high demand in other areas," Adel Al Redha,Emirates' chief operating officer, said on Tuesday.

I wonder what the high demand routes are.
