Kudos again to EK for serving top wines in F.

Was being served in September on the LHR route, and is still being served now (Oct). Great wine, especially the 2008. Although the star continues to be the Ermitage "Le Pavillon" from Chapoutier, which sadly looks like may disappear in a couple of weeks' time ("while a pretty good, although not exceptional, 2008 Lynch Bages remains on the list).

Seems to be 'formally' listed on my ex-JFK flight next week.

Yes sorry, I didn’t meant to imply that it is exclusively on the LHR route. It was just a datapoint to confirm that it was indeed available on the last few sectors I flew in September.

Hi all. We're MXP to JFK in First in mid November. Over/under on the P2 getting popped by then? Showing the 2015 Dom in the app menu right now. Thanks!

It's supposed to be on.

I don’t think they said it’ll be available on all routes at the same time. In the past they seem to have rotated it across regions throughout the period that P2 was available, but no one knows for sure when.

For the recent rose, they said it was limited to some routes. For the P2, they did not. We will see, but I am banking on there being plen(i)ty (;)).

Noting that MXP routes are currently featuring a great Sassicaia. Perhaps not the very best vintage (2014), but a treat nonetheless.

Not the very best vintage is probably the theme of the EK wine list :D

Of course, EK's not the very best vintage, but some of the finest producers, is still miles ahead of everyone else.

Not the "very best" in most cases, although 2008 is fantastic for Champagne. 2008 is very good for red Bordeaux. These are general statements.

Props to EK.

I would tend to disagree with the first part... To me it seems that vintages on EK are very diverse: some "not very best" are equally balanced by some that are truly amongst the best in class (see the 2015 De L'Oree Ermitage blanc from Chapoutier, or even the 2013 Le Pavillon from the same producer, or the aforementioned 2008 Dom Rose). If I had to take a guess, they might buy when they still don't know the quality of the vintage. My only issue is with some of the whites that are just gone: oxidised likely because not stored properly, either by EK or by whoever sold to them. And then there is the omnipresent 2012 Latour Corton Charlemagne, which was horrible to begin with... but hopefully will run out... :D

All in all, still the very best cellar in the sky. No contest.

eternaltransit Oct 24, 2024 9:09 am

I think that's right, that they are buying yearly while looking at sufficient volumes. It doesn't have to be the best, just very good - and if it turns out that vintage has become the best post-order, then, they look like genuises, or at least, have a bigger budget than they actually do :D

I think we can put 2008 Dom Rose to one side though given this is LVMH airlines and they have preferential allocation (or rather, products are specially placed with EK).

Spot on, with respect to Bordeaux and CA Cabs.
