Refund shortchanged

Anyone here have a magic way to get a hold of Emirates Refund centre?

I booked 2 tix and cancelled them within 24hrs- then I rebooked with a stopover, so I bought 2 more expensive tickets.

I received confirmation that the full amount CAD 3724.51 would be refunded for each ticket grand Total of $7449.02: I received 2 messages, one for each tix; We are pleased to advise that your refund request has been processed by Emirates. The total refund amount due to you is CAD3724.51.An amount of CAD3724.51 will be refunded to your Credit Card(s)

However they refunded me in US dollars and I received $3672.54 for each ticket
per statement from My credit card: Feb. 2, 2017 EMIRATES INTERNET BOOKING DXB AMT 2,879.08 UNITED STATES DOLLAR CAD 3,672.54
I received grand total of $7345.08

Short changed $103.94

I have sent 2 emails to central refunds and have not received any response yet. So I called the customer service who advised me to fill out a complaint on the website Which I did.

This is a pain for $100, but still it's my $100...

1. Central refund contact: no sorry
2. Cancel within 24hrs, you booked in the US? There's generally no 24hr cancellation window but I know in the US there is
3. What currency were you originally charged in (what's in the booking confirmation). If it's in USD and you were refunded the same amount in USD then really not EK's fault.
4. On virtually every fare EK has there is no additional cost to a stopover unless the fare on the later travel date is different.

I booked on their Canadian site in Canadian Dollars and was told I was getting the same back as you can read from my original post. There is a 24hr cancellation option.

The stopover was an extra $200 because it was a sale fare.

Customer service was very nice but couldn't help me.

Hm sounds tricky. Does the trip originate in the US? I've found Ek doesn't fall for simply using another site. Flights are always priced based on origin city.

Either way if they promised a refund of CAD x then that's what should be honoured. Unfortunately not sure how much luck you'll have squeezing that 100CAD out of them...

The trip originates from Canada, the sale was only from Western Canada. IT's YVR-SEA-DXB-NBO and return with stopover in DXB.

Alaska air is the codeshare from YVR to SEA. This sale was to drum up business from western Canada.

I may have lost that $100 in the miscalculation error of the refund centre.

My suspicion is the codeshare is causing the issue. They probably calculated the refund for EK operated flights so exclusive YVR-SEA

My guess is when they issued the refund the US to CAD was correct but the bank issues it at the rate of that day...

If Emirates is being non-responsive to this, I would call the bank and do a chargeback. Seems like a pretty cut and dry case - you purchased in CAD, the receipt is in CAD, the refund confirmation given by Emirates is in CAD.

Would probably do both - dispute the refund amount with Amex and contact EK through the online refund contact us form with the EMD receipts in question.

I've emailed central refunds again and sent them a message on Facebook.

This is on their original email: "please contact us and a team member will be pleased to assist you"

If I don't hear back by Thursday I'll call Amex...

I finally heard back from central refunds - but that only because I reached out to their social media team:

Kindly note full refund was processed from our end for the below tickets. Please be advised that ticket was issued in CAD currency ,the bank has then converted this to USD at their own exchange rates.

Request you to please liaise with the card issuing bank.

I spoke with my bank and they will deal with it- I will have my $103.94 refund in the next 90 days.

Thanks all for your help!
