Please post your 2017 Operational Upgrade Experiences in this thread.
Around the middle of 2016, Emirates modified their Operational Upgrade Policy favouring type of ticket over status holders, giving non status passengers on Flex and Flex Plus tickets an advantage over (for example) Silver members on a Saver ticket. During the latter half of 2016, less Op Ups were reported but we would still like to hear when they happen.

The way the upgrade was given was rather funny. I had been sleeping on the floor at DXB for 8 hours, forgetting to remove the boarding pass from my pocket. The result was a crumbled boarding pass in 2 pieces.
I showed it to the gentleman at the gate, who looked at the crumbled paper, laughed and printed me a new one, which came with the upgrade.
Sadly the seat was 8E - _ -

I would have thought that 8E trumped any Y seat, what would you have expected, 7K (my favourite on the 777)....

Possible, if most pax on Saver or Special and several op-ups.

I am just not a big fan of the layout in the 777. Having to step over people while they sleep is not very practical

I forgot to ask if they changed the upgrade policy back to status based, but this flight gives me hope. Flex ticket, on a 2 class plane on the Saturday night ending a week of Saudi school holidays, so I'm guessing lots of flex-plus tickets sold based on what I've seen in the past.

I can't believe fare type trumps status
I'm guessing you have such a low Skywards balance because there is no such thing as a lack of inventory for I/Os.

My Skywards balance is always used for upgrades of my Gold nominee
And: Yes you are absolutely right! This upgrade procedure is unbelievable and most unfair! Hopefully Emirates will wake up soon in this regard!

I don't think its unfair - I just think they should let plats have a bit of space in F now and again

Has anyone heard anything more about the rules being changed back to status based op-ups? I know there were rumors of this a few months ago but I don't think there's been any news since?
