Please post your 2017 Operational Upgrade Experiences in this thread.

Around the middle of 2016, Emirates modified their Operational Upgrade Policy favouring type of ticket over status holders, giving non status passengers on Flex and Flex Plus tickets an advantage over (for example) Silver members on a Saver ticket. During the latter half of 2016, less Op Ups were reported but we would still like to hear when they happen.

Link to the 2015/2016 thread: Please Post Your Operational Upgrade Experiences - 2015/2016

Please use the following format for ease of reading and of course, discussion is still welcome.

Example:

Upgrade given: Y - J

Upgrade location: Gate

Route: BKK-DXB

Flight number: EK385

Type of ticket: Saver

Date of travel: 040115

Tier status: Gold

Tier miles to date: 18,000

Skywards miles balance: 80,000

Number of pax on the same PNR (Including OP): 1

Number of pax upgraded: 1

Finally - that makes more sense to me - there are a lot of plats but also so many golds.

Not sure I'll quite renew this year - going to be close.

This could well be the case. I got an op up Y-J on a saver ticket DXB-LHR yesterday. Flight load a few hours before showed the flight to oversold by just 2 so I was surprised to receive the upgrade given I had expected at least 2 flex tickets from 429 bookings.

What about upgraded fares or award tickets?

I might try and re-new if this is the case now...

Award tickets yes - they show up as Flex/Saver on the system.

Do you mean special offer upgrades? They still exist as the original fare group, so as Platinum you'll still be top of the list: the upgrade system looks at fare group from everyone in a particular cabin, so if you're down as seated in the J cabin, then as platinum you should be first up, by fare class.

Obviously a J Flex Plus platinum will be ahead of an Y-J with miles upgrade pax who will be in O or D class.

Assuming that IT's implementation of policy is accurate and we all know EK IT skills

I don't actually know the booking classes, where to find them? Emirates seems to hide them very well.

This was really an unexpected upgrade, since I don't have any status and only travelled once with Emirates. Maybe it was how I was joking at baggage drop-off with the nice lady at the counter about whether I like my seat 42H and I said: sure, but 1A would be nicer. She just laughed Then at boarding I get the upgrade.

But it would probably get people into trouble if I publicly posted a screenshot of MACS, so you'll just have to take my word for it

It's not theory for revenue tickets, but will be interesting to see if D class is included in the automatic list!

It of course shows as J flex plus, however we geeks know its a lowly D class. The return is a First Saver if that helps!
